Veneto

The Veneto region in the north-east of Italy is one of enormous contrasts between the Dolomite Mountains, Italy's largest lake (Lake Garda) and the ancient cities of Venice (Venezia), Verona and Padua (Padova).

Vincenza's UNESCO World Heritage listed sites make it well worth a visit too. Well-known Renaissance architect, Andrea Palladio, built more than twenty buildings in Vincenza including the Basilica Palladiana, the Palazzo Chiericati (home to the city's art gallery and museum) and the Teatro Olimpico (Olympic stadium).

Padua is a bustling student city with one of the oldest universities in the world, founded in 1222. Its list of professors and alumni is long and illustrious including the likes of Copernicus and Galileo Galilei. The university hosts the oldest anatomy theatre built in 1594, which is open to the public.

Verona is a city of romance and the home of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. Attractions include Juliet's balcony and tomb along with stunning views of the river Adige from its many medieval bridges.

Treviso is a gem of the Veneto region with its many churches and cathedrals from centuries gone by. Have a coffee in the sun in the Piazza dei Signori, the main square of the city.
