Bedding & Rooms The number and type of rooms available is shown on the Overview page of a guest house once you 'Select your Dates'. Move your mouse over a room type to see how many people can sleep in that room. Room configurations have the following meaning:
Single - is a bedroom containing one (1) single bed.
Twin - is a bedroom containing two (2) single beds. These beds may or may not be able to be moved together subject to the room configuration.
Double - is a bedroom containing one bed for two (2) people. See the FAQ Who can share rooms?
Triple - is a bedroom containing three (3) single beds. These beds may or may not be able to be moved together subject to the room configuration.
Quadruple - is a bedroom containing four (4) single beds. These beds may or may not be able to be moved together subject to the room configuration.
Quintuple - is a bedroom containing five (5) single beds. These beds may or may not be able to be moved together subject to the room configuration.
Sixtuple - is a bedroom containing six (6) single beds. These beds may or may not be able to be moved together subject to the room configuration.
Private bathrooms - guest houses we book have rooms with en-suite or exclusive use private bathroom facilities (location can sometimes be adjacent the room with a private key based on the architecture of the house).
Back to Top How many people per room? Monasteries and convents, like hotels, operate under strict fire and safety regulations. This means they do not allow more people into a room than the number it has officially been designated to hold.
Thus 4 people in a triple or twin room is not allowed, nor two people in a single room.
Exceptions are sometimes made when very young children are involved (see: Can we take the children?)
Do not arrive with more people than the room you booked - it will not be received well and you will likely find your booking cancelled.
See Bedding & Rooms for further detail on room type and number of people accommodated.
Back to Top Who can share rooms? It is not correct that people of the opposite gender cannot share rooms. It is just they need to fall into a specific category e.g. be married (husband/wife), direct family members eg. children, mother/daughter etc.
Monasteries are working religious institutions and as such they have their 'house rules' which we kindly ask you to respect in selecting your Rooms.
A better plan for example is to take two single rooms as monasteries have these rare commodities and the price of two singles is not substantially more than a double/twin room. In this way you don't break the rules and can experience the benefit of this unique style of accommodation. If in doubt, you must include information in the Additional Requirements section of the Travel Plan Authorisation and we can advise.
Back to Top Groups or Families - what rooms? Monastery and convent guest houses are very used to accommodating families and groups as locals use them all the time. Indeed this accommodation is both a unique experience and also affordable option for groups and families, with good facilities. But book early as many places are small and fill fast!
Monastery Stays can book any combination of rooms to suit the number of people in your group - take note of the larger multiple person rooms.
The Travel Plan allows you to select a different room configuration per Preference, providing you with flexibility based on what is offered and available.
Do not arrive with more people than the rooms you booked - it will not be received well and you will likely find your booking cancelled.
