Get to know Turin – a baroque masterpiece at the foot of the Alps

There is plenty to do in the heart of Turin, with a number of highly regarded attractions dotted around a compact city centre. The Royal Palace (including the Apartments and Armoury) are a UNESCO World Heritage listed sight sitting on the grand Piazza Castello. The Egyptian Museum has countless incredible pieces on display and is one of the most impressive collections of artifacts outside of Egypt.

The imposing Mole Antonelliana houses the National Museum of Cinema – make sure you also take the elevator up to the top of the tower for unrivalled views of the city and the Alps!

Best of all, another of Turin’s historic attractions also has monastery accommodation – perfect! Basilica Di Superga (PIT102) sits on a hill overlooking Turin, easily spotted from the banks of the River Po.

The view from the top of the mountain is stunning, the Savoy family crypt is a sight to behold, and the basilica itself is breathtaking.

Highlights of Milan – an exciting town with plenty of charm

First stop in Milan undoubtedly has to be Piazza del Duomo. Stand in the centre of this vast square and take in the incredible Gothic facade of the duomo. Head inside the cathedral and stand among the towering stone columns as you admire the gorgeous artwork.

Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II sits on the northern side of the piazza, be sure to wander through this historic 19th century shopping mall. Food, drink and shopping are all found in this wonderful structure, the oldest active shopping mall in Italy.

Head out the other end of the galleria to Teatro alla Scala, a grand opera house with a rich history. Continue walking north to the Pinocateca di Brera, one of Italy’s premier art galleries. You will find some truly exceptional art here, from masters such as Caravaggio, Tintoretto and Titian.

Spend your time in Milan at Oasi San Francesco (LOM125) – well connected to the sights of the city by Milan’s impressive and efficient Metro system.
