Monastero di San Gregorio al Celio (LAR209)

Colosseum Rome Lazio

House of the Congregazione Camaldolese dell'Ordine di San Benedetto

The grand staircase that leads to the monastery, immediately represents the history of this great guest house. Ideally located a short walk from the Colosseum and very well connected with public transport for surrounding areas.

Well located to all the sites of central Rome and only a stone throw away from the Colosseum.

The host, George, was very friendly. The building is beautiful. The rooms are very quiet, so you get a good nights sleep. Breakfast from a vending machine was a bit disappointing. Better to get Roman breakfast at one of the many trattoria :-). We were lucky that at the Circus Maximus, which is across the street, there were concerts in the evening. Lots of happpy people and good atmosphere when going back to the monastery in the evening. Walking distance from Colosseum (10 min max) and city centre is definitelly a big plus. We had a great stay!

We liked it very much

I loved this stay. However, was a little daunted by the steps in the beginning. After a day or two I had my walking and 'stair' legs. It was 80 steps from the street to our rooms. I would definitely stay there again. Everyone was very nice and accommodating. Beds were wonderful. I would definitely let people know about the stairs. Didn't ask if there was a back way. I don't think they had an elevator. It was a block from the Bus stop and Metro and several great Ristorantes. Also, just down the street from the Coliseum.

This is a lovely quiet place to stay. Not too far from historical attractions but a good stretch of the legs to get to the Vatican. Close to public transport and good restaurants. The monks were very helpful and welcoming. I would definitely go back there.
