A beautiful monastery awaits you in a beautiful part of Italy. This is a fine choice for a relaxing vacation or a quiet spiritual retreat.The town of Cassino is most famous for the stunning abbey that sits atop Montecassino, which is very close to the centre of the city and is known as the starting point of the Benedictine order. This convent was pivotal in the Battle of Montecassino during World War II, which saw most of the city destroyed. It was rebuilt after the war, and is now a lovely town which is developing commercially and is a great tourist destination.

The famous monastery is situated in a beautiful and secluded part of the Lazio region which is the reason that St Benedict and St Scolastica chose the location to build a monastery for reflection and peace.

Bus History
This ancient monastery was built around the caves first inhabitated by St Benedict. The monastic community is the one founded by St. Benedicts sister St. Scolastica in the 5th century. A monastery has existed on the site since the 9th century. Completely destroyed in WW II it was rebuilt in the 1950's.Customer Reviews

The sisters were wonderfully welcoming and helpful. Due to flight delays, I arrived very late by train, and they were kind enough to stay up, and come get me. The rooms were clean, pleasant, and spacious. Even kitchen facilities were available, with plenty of restaurants in the local area. The location is perfect for seeing Monte Cassino, a local bus a block away takes you up to the monastery. |

It was perfect for what I wanted. It is not for everyone though.There was a kitchen that I was able to use and that was a bonus. The monastery is situated very close to the bus stop to the Abbey and to the tourist information office, (both walking distance). Sr. Martha made me feel very welcome as did the other residents, even though not a lot of English was spoken. Overall, I was very happy with my stay. |
