House of the Suore Francescane Alcantarine
Casa Madonna della Pace is a traditional Umbrian delight with characteristic stone walls and a grand archway entrance. Modern furniture inside provides guests with comfort and a warm Franciscan welcome. Ideally located in the heart of Assisi's historic center between the Saint Francis and Santa Chiara Basilicas.This convent is surrounded by some of the most historical churches in Assisi, the Basilica of Santa Chiara and the World Heritage listed Basilica di Santa Francesco. The Saint Francis Basilica was built after his canonization in 1228, and completed in 1253. The lower church hosts frescoes by renowned late-medieval artists Cimabue and Giotto. In the upper church there are frescoes of scenes in the life of Saint Francis previously ascribed to Giotto and now thought to be by artists of the circle of Pietro Cavallini of Rome. The Basilica was restored after being badly damaged in 1997 when an earthquake hit the town.

Mass is held at 7:20am & 6:30pm.
Breakfast is included in the price. Other meals are available (additional) and bookings can be arranged with reception.

The Sisters were very kind and accommodating. They were very helpful in explaining things and because this was my first time organising a pilgrimage with a large group said just to ask if I needed any additional help. The evening meal at 7-45 was too late for most of us. The food was excellent but too much for that time of night. Breakfast was much more that we expected and again was excellent. We had everything we needed. |

The accommodation situated in the heart of the township was simple yet comfortable. The Sisters were most welcoming and hospitable throughout the stay. Breakfast was provided. However it was very limited in choice of foods which was a bit disappointing. Lunch and supper were also available at a very reasonable price. |
