History

The main building was originally built as a castle to protect the citizens of the town of Barza, and later on was converted to a private home. Most of what is visible today was designed in the 19th century, when the villa was home to the Italian tenor Pietro Monigni. Umberto I, King of Italy was a guest here in 1879. The venue changed hands again in 1934 to the current owners, who converted it to a place of retreat and spirituality.
