Villa Mesco was a refreshing place to stay, once we got air conditioning sorted out. Due to 3+ hours of train delays, we arrived around 6 pm, which is after check-in hours. We discovered the door wide open, with our last name, room number, and key on the reception desk. There was nobody in sight aside from another guest, who told us that the attendant would be back in the morning. Unfortunately the air conditioner in our room was not functioning when we arrived, and the temps were around 100 F, so our first night of sleep was difficult. Thankfully, in the morning I was able to speak to the receptionist, who discovered that our AC had simply not been turned on at the main control unit at reception; after that the room was much more comfortable. Everyone we met was friendly and helpful, and the facilities and breakfast were excellent. It was simply our initial arrival and first night without AC that was subpar.
We initially took a taxi to arrive at Villa Mesco, which was very helpful as it might have been difficult to find on foot. Walking to the beach and new part of town took about 8-10 minutes, which was just fine for us, but due to the hilly terrain and lack of sidewalks might not be feasible for anyone with decreased mobility.
Kacy - NE, United States (August 2024)
Clean, bright and lovely. We had to leave before the breakfast so cannot comment on that. Wish the vending machine worked as there is nowhere close by to get snacks, water or coffee etc.
We used a chauffeur service which doesn’t pick up right at the location- had to pick us up at the Fegina parking area (in front of beach) which was a 10 minute walk with luggage - luckily downhill!
Beds pretty good- we only stayed one night though. Person at desk understood little english but was as helpful as she could be. Would definitely use this option again!
Dana - NY, United States (August 2024)
Great location, close to the free beach, easy access to the promenade (once you learn where the shortcut is). Although I never met Mark or Marco during my 3-day stay there, the lady working in the kitchen was kind to do the check in and show me around.
Alina - BC, Canada (July 2024)
The seminary was very nice.
The facility was quiet and relaxing.
The service for breakfast was awesome!
They marked my table with my room number so I would go to the seat they wanted me to.
There was a freshly baked croissant waiting for me everyday.

Lovely visit and great base within walking distance to Monterosso al Mare!
Heath - AL, United States (June 2024)
LOVED this stay. Beautiful monastery in paradise!
James - CO, United States (June 2024)
We had requested two beds, but they gave us two rooms (each with two beds?). At check out, one person (didn't seemed used to do checkout) thougth we had reserved two rooms. We explained what happened and ended up paying for what we had reserved (one room with two beds).
Michelle - QC, Canada (May 2024)
Florence - , France (May 2024)
It was a beautiful building and a wonderful view from our room. Villa Mesco is away from the noise of the town but not too far which we appreciated since we were walking everywhere.
Carol - MN, United States (April 2024)
The room was cute, clean and quiet with a lovely view! Breakfast was yogurt, packaged rolls, juice, and coffee. Would be nice to have cereal. When you arrive for check in, you must text the manager to come and let you in.
Kimberly - CA, United States (October 2023)
Absolutely lovely place, with great staff!
Kristen - ON, Canada (September 2023)
Villa Mesco sits up above Monterosso so getting there from the train really requires a taxi- 15 Euro. The hike to town is down hill, but fairly steep coming up. Marco the host was exceptional. The room should have had working A/C but it was not possible to fix it. Marco compensated us fairly with a reduced rate for our stay. The room did cool off late in the night. Breakfast was very light compared to our other Monastery Stay in Florence. Marco also saved the day- my wife left here phone in Vernazzna. Marco called all the places we had been and the last one, a bar with drinks to go at the dock had found it- tried to catch us but couldn't. They held it for us and we took the train back over and recovered it. Thank you Marco- you are a gentleman. We recommend Villa Mesco if you are not looking for 4 stars- it's a comfortable stay and very secure.
Mitchell - MT, United States (May 2023)
I met some very nice people! Marco was extremely good-natured and helpful when he could be there (he has several jobs and is quite busy). Highly recommend
Virginia - MA, United States (May 2023)
the host was most gracious and very helpful. it was a short walk to town which made it very convenient.

An unqualified 10/10!

Absolutely lovely place! Excellent staff went above and beyond to help me find my way around. I took a taxi from the train, but then learned that it is a 12 minute walk if you use the back way- pretty steep terrain, so have some hiking sandals. I felt very safe there, even at night.
Margaret - NC, United States (July 2021)
The manager was full of handy tips - breakfast here was tremendous - hard to find initially but it was nice to retreat from the crowds.
Philip - QLD, Australia (September 2019)
The people who were in charge were nice and at least one of them spoke English which was helpful.
Ana - WA, United States (September 2019)
Although the walk to the monastery from the train station was a little longer and uphill, the rooms were very nice and Marco was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast offered more than some others. It would be good to have breakfast a little earlier for those who have to catch an earlier train but we were offered a ride by Marco to help us out. All in all it was a very pleasant experience and we would go back without hesitation.
Greg - CA, United States (June 2019)
Giovanni was absolutely wonderful to work with. They kindly and generously provided dinner for us on our first night, and also arranged a small truck that took our luggage to and from the hotel. I would highly recommend to others to stay at Villa Mesco, it was lovely respite of quiet peacefulness.
Tim - OR, USA (May 2019)
It was one of our best stays in Italy. The staff were so friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The area is quiet and within walking distance of the Monterossa town. We did struggle a bit to find the exact entrance to the property. Parking was on site, free and safe. A continental style breakfast was included . We were offered an optional dinner at night and that was probably the highlight of the day ! We regretted having dinner elsewhere one night. During dinner time we also started making friends with other guests. By the end of our three nights we were sad to leave as we felt so at home. Thanks to everyone ! It was a wonderful stay ( only thing I missed was a hair dryer)
Minette - New South Wales, Australia (April 2019)
Although we caught the taxi on our arrival we found that there was an easy walk from the villa into the village for the rest of our stay. The villa was very clean & comfortable with modern facilities. Our host was very helpful with local knowledge & advice. A pleasant stay.
Cheryl - NSW, Australia (June 2018)
Marco and GianFranco were most helpful and concerned for ourr well-being. The breakfast was excellent and the breakfast chef most pleasant and accommodating.

Mildred - NE, United States (July 2017)
I l.oved my stay here.Great location .Fantastic views and facilities
Paul - Victoria, Australia (May 2017)
This was one of the best places I've stayed in while traveling. The building and room were impeccably clean. The location is a short walk from the main part of town and was very quiet, even with all the windows open. The woman at the front desk was so welcoming and kind, I felt like I was staying at a friend's house. My stay here was so relaxing and restoring.
Reine - MD, United States (May 2017)
I genuinely enjoyed my stay at Villa Mesco. The location and view were fantastic.
Stephanie - ON, Canada (May 2017)
Great Facility with great hosts and location. Very clean and well maintained property. Thanks Margherita and Marco!
Tristan - QLD, Australia (April 2017)
It was a long trek pulling our luggage up the long steep streets, but then we discovered a taxi was available! We were there in Feb, which is off-season, and were the only ones staying at the time. However, we had everything we needed, the rooms were clean and comfortable, and the staff couldn't have been any nicer. I would stay there again.
Jon - IN, United States (February 2017)
The lady at the reception is nicely warm and very generous of her time. I was very tired on arrival : she was so comprehensive. I keep a very nice memory of her kindness. The room was perfect.
I'm not in good shape and walking from the train station was a little strenuous for me, with that heat. But otherwise, all was perfect.
I am very grateful to Monastery Stay for the managing of this stay for me.
Eileen - Quebec, Canada (September 2016)
A little off the beaten path, and a lovely stay. We enjoyed the spotless rooms, the delicious meals, and the wonderful location. We were warmly received and hosted throughout our visit.
Christiana - GA, United States (May 2016)
Marguerite, Marcus , fausta all excellent hospitable people. So gracious. They helped beyond the call of duty. Train tickets. iPad charger, ankle injury so they gave me an ice pack. Loved it!
Barbara - Ontario, Canada (May 2016)
My wife and I stayed four nights at Villa Mesco and were pleased with this facility. It is new inside and out so does not exude any "old world charm". Any one staying here should be advised to bring a cell phone as there is no available phone on site and the front lobby is frequently not staffed - including during the day. Emergency numbers were posted but if you had a problem with the facility such as a plumbing issue or needed towels, there were no instructions on how to handle those situations. Wi-Fi was extremely limited and only worked if you were sitting in the lobby area. Still, with the location near the new town, and the quality of the furnishings, I would gladly return for another visit.
A Eugene - WI, United States (May 2016)
Very clean and comfortable with newly remodelled and modern bathroom. My daughter and I loved our stay and would highly recommend it.
Stephen - WA, United States (April 2016)
We were welcomed as soon as we arrived, and informed of all the local things to do. It was a little difficult getting there initially, with all our luggage, but once we were settled, it was perfect.
I would return if we have the opportunity, and I will recommend it to others.
Grazie!
