Customer Reviews
We enjoyed our stay very much! The staff was very friendly and helpful. We were pleased with the nice breakfast. Good location! Thank you!
Gayle - OR, United States (September 2022)
Super friendly / nice people, great location, solid value.
Jeremy - ON, Canada (November 2019)
Everyone on the staff was friendly and helpful and I always felt safe there. The rooms were fine without frills, as expected, although a kettle in the room would have been appreciated, as would a little fruit at breakfast. Friday and Saturday nights were often noisy in the street outside but the location was very convenient for getting to most places of interest on foot. I enjoyed my time at Casa Il Rosario.
Christine - VIC, Australia (November 2019)
Thoroughly enjoyable stay. The nuns and staff were very gracious and helpful.
Great location very close to the Forum and Colosseum.
Great value for money considering it's central Rome.
Christine - ON, Canada (October 2019)
What a find! This convent is perfectly located in the quiet back streets of the Monti District, off busy Cavour, and close to short bus links to Termini. The Forum is easily walkable from here, as is transportation to all major sites. The sisters were kind and helpful, and my room was silent.
Andrew - FL, United States (October 2019)
The breakfast and nuns were lovely!
Maria - , New Zealand (October 2019)
We will definitely stay here again when in Rome. Loved the Monti district and the access to the historical sites. Loved the roof top deck for a sunset pizza and wine.
Carrie - WA, United States (September 2019)
The sisters and the staff are very friendly. Rooms with air conditioning were very much appreciated. A great location with easy access to Colosseum, local streets felt safe.
Stanton - VA, United States (August 2019)
We enjoyed our stay at Casa Rosario. The location was great and everything was clean and quiet.
Angela - TX, United States (July 2019)
It was a lovely stay with the warmest reception.
Paula - WA, Australia (June 2019)
We enjoyed our 2 visits to Casa Il Rosario very much and coming back after our few days walking Via Francigena we felt like we were coming home. The sisters and reception staff were always friendly and helpful. Breakfast was 1st class and more than sufficient. We did prefer our bedroom facing the courtyard. We delighted in the pretty little garden and the view from the top of the roof. Highly recommended in every way.
Helen - Western Cape, South Africa (May 2019)
Very friendly and helpful staff, particularly the kind Sister who lent me her jacket when i got soaked...many thanks!
Ian - Hertfordshire, United Kingdom (April 2019)
Casa Il Rosario is a wonderful place to stay. The staff was amazingly warm and welcoming. The breakfast was excellent. It has been one of my best experiences in Italy.
William - MA, United States (March 2019)
Carlo is very good. The nuns were very friendly. Breakfast was great! Walking to the sights were a breeze. Only public transportation we took was to the Vatican. Walked to all other places.
Anne - AB, Canada (March 2019)
Although I was not able to check in in English, the sister at reception went out of her way to oblige me.
Eliza J - VIC, Australia (January 2019)
Thank you for a lovely place to stay whilst we were in Rome. We were very happy being there
Karen - Tas, Australia (November 2018)
Location is incredible, right in the middle of the Ancient sites. The stay was magnificent.
Peta - VIC, Australia (October 2018)
Great property located conveniently near the Colosseum and Forum. The Metro stop at Cavour is similarly close. The room was comfortable, though sparse. Breakfast is a very simple affair with some baked goods and spread as well as several cereals to choose from; coffee, tea and some juices were also available. All in all though, a great experience and value in Rome. I would return.
Stephen - CO, United States (April 2018)
It was a great location, central to most of the common attractions, within 1/2 hour of walking.
Everyone was so accommodating, friendly and nice!
Thank you!
Kawmadhie - ON, Canada (November 2017)
A calm, quiet, safe oasis - loved the garden and the roof terrace. Great location for antiquities and wine bars!
Catherine - , United Kingdom (October 2017)
Very pleasant stay in a peaceful environment.
Eleanor - Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom (October 2017)
This was in a perfect location to explore the famous historic sites. Just a short walk to the Colosseum. The nuns and receptionists were friendly and helpful. The courtyard was lovely and the rooftop had a beautiful view of the city. Breakfast was adequate. Very quiet location considering it was right in the middle of the city. Wifi only in common areas. Many restaurants and shops within walking distance. Rooms were simple and clean.
Sabina M - CA, United States (June 2017)
Casa Il Rosario is one of our favorite places in Rome. We enjoy meeting the staff and other people who stay there. The location is excellent!
Janet - MS, United States (May 2017)
Wonderful experience. Great place.
Roxanne - QUEBEC, Canada (May 2017)
We enjoyed our stay and the hospitality of the staff. We hope Rosario will continue to exist and we look forward to stay there next year, as we due to a death in the family has to shorten our plan stay.
Hugo - , Denmark (January 2017)
The homemade yogurt is delicious, the location divine, and the sisters warm and helpful. The curfew is a bit of a pain, and I had to cut short two dinners to get back tine, but I knew that coming in.
Anne - CA, United States (July 2016)
Wonderful hospitality. Great Location. Really special. Highly recommended.
Sharon - Gauteng, South Africa (June 2016)
Rooms were simple and spartan but great value considering the location. Breakfast was in excess of what was expected. Quiet and clean, all you really need to enjoy the sights of Rome. Taxis had no problems driving to the door. Would definitely use again.
Trevor - New South Wales, Australia (May 2016)
Casa Il Rosario is a great place to stay in Rome. The garden is a very nice place to eat or just relax.
Janet - MS, United States (May 2016)
This was the most hotel like of all the locations we stayed at - hired staff at the desk, lots of rooms and a much larger breakfast selection than at other sites.
They allowed us to check in early, which was very helpful and much appreciated.
The location was a little out of the way, but certainly not a problem.
Karen - Alberta, Canada (May 2016)
Very satisfied by room, location, kindness of personnel.
Breakfast could be improved.
Guillaume - , France (April 2016)
The convent was well positioned and exceeded our expectations in regards to position and generous room size.

It was perfect, price, location, cleanliness , quiet for sleeping , outside courtyard and rooftop terrace, staff and nuns very friendly and helpful
Thank you
Dianne - Victoria, Australia (April 2015)
It was a superb experience and I would not hesitate to recommend it. The location was brilliant, the room very nice, the beds comfortable. The breakfast is basic but adequate and the overall experience was excellent value for money and a unique experience. Compared to staying in a commercial hotel, I would choose this convent stay without a doubt.
Julia - Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom (November 2014)
Very peaceful oasis right in the centre of the historical district of Rome with all of its traffic, crowded streets and noise.
Douglas C - British Columbia, Canada (October 2014)
The sisters were so helpful and attentive to my questions and needs. I would stay again, no question about it. The cleanliness of the rooms was beyond compare and the beautiful courtyard and gardens were peaceful and stunning.
Lynda - TX, United States (September 2014)
After a long, exhausting travel day that began in San Francisco, we arrived in late evening to a gracious welcome at the Casa Il Rosario. We loved our three-night stay at this convent. The nuns and all the staff were helpful and seemed truly full of joy. Our simple room was spacious and sparkling clean. The convent's close proximity to so many sites allowed us to walk almost everywhere. We enjoyed a delicious dinner our first night at Taverna Romana, which is on a lively street a short distance from the convent. On our last night we sat on the fourth floor terrace and enjoyed the lights of Rome. I would definitely stay here again.
Michael - CA, United States (September 2014)
Great location. Comfortable stay, although beds are firm. Nuns and front desk people were helpful. I would definitely stay again.
Kathleen - WA, United States (September 2014)
I love this place, have stayed here four times, and its location just couldn't be better if you want to visit the Forum. It is also located between several key public transport corridors, so you can always find a bus or subway home. The noise levels can be high (we always seem to get rooms on the street!) and there is no A/C, but the rooms are otherwise fine. We had home-made delicious yogurt with our breakfast, which was served by beaming nuns. They are happy to arrange for taxi connections to the airport, as well. Incredible roof-terrace views, as well as some nice gardens inside the premises.
Kate - TX, United States (July 2014)
We loved our stay at Casa Il Rosario. The location was great (right by the ancient center of Rome) and the rooms were clean. Everyone who worked there was very helpful and friendly. The rooms were clean and the breakfast was nice.
Heidi - UT, United States (June 2014)
We completed our stay in Rome this past Saturday at Casa Il Rosario, which Monastery Stays lined up for us. We could not have asked for anything better!
For our unique needs with a wheelchair, the staff and facility were incredibly compassionate and accommodating. Our set-up was a central entrance with two separate twin rooms and a wheelchair accessible bathroom between the two. There was easy access to this ground floor room with a low-grade ramp leading up to the suite's door. It was perfect for us. After traveling a week at that point, this facility was better than we could've asked for with our needs.
AND! The location was incredible. Short walk to Termini, access to main bus lines on Via Nazionale and the Roman Forum/Colosseum was less than a kilometer away.
Additionally, the breakfast was nice with a good array of hot and cold beverages, some breads with spreads available & yogurt with granola.
The only challenge was the cobbled hill it was located on. That wasn't a huge issue because we were out all day, but someone managing a wheelchair on their own would need assistance. At the top of the hill (the joint of Via Panisperna & Via di Sant'Agata di Goti) just a few meters up hill from the Casa, the cars park quite close. Sometimes finding a way around them was challenging based on how closely they were spaced. Someone in a wheelchair staying at Casa Il Rosario would want to know this ahead of time in the future as they would need help navigating the area.
Thank you so much for coming through with appropriate accommodations where other sites were lacking. I am so glad I found Monastery Stays!
Jenn - IL, United States (March 2014)
We had a lovely time. Should we return to Rome, we will stay here again, and I intend to recommend it to friends as well.
If you don't speak Italian but do have Spanish you will be fine-many of the nuns have Spanish as a first language. Our triple room was on the second floor and looked out on the garden.
Spotlessly clean, very welcoming and a great location near Cavour metro and walkable to San Pietro in Vincoli, Colosseum/Forum area, others. Wifi was really cheap (4 euro for the week) and worked perfectly for us. Children are welcomed and adored.
Jennifer - AE, United States (February 2014)
We had a lovely time. The room was nice and the location is great. We could walk everywhere because all of the main attractions are about a 15 minute walk. The nuns are very sweet, particularly Sister Hope. Great place. We would stay there again.
William - TX, United States (February 2014)
EXCELLENT - the best thing about this location is that it is JUST far enough away from the bad area around the train station (which as far as I could tell extends two blocks beyond Santa Maria Maggiore to the southwest, and maybe to Via XX Settembre to the northwest) to be in a safe area, but is not so far that you have to drag your bags across Rome. The service was great, the desk people extremely kind and helpful, the internet works very well in the rooms, the rooms were clean, comfortable, well maintained and quiet at night, and the breakfast was definitely the best of the three monasteries I stayed at, very plentiful and no problem refilling your coffee. I would absolutely recommend this to friends, it was an excellent value for Rome.
Zack - CA, United States (October 2013)
We were pleased with the facility and location. The view of the Colosseum from the roof terrace was eye popping. We were pleased to find that most sites we wanted to see in Rome were within walking distance, while at the same time we enjoyed being in a quiet neighbourhood. Complimentary breakfast was more than expected and very substantial to get us going each day. Thank you for a marvellous experience.
Judy - WA, United States (September 2013)
Excellent location within comfortable walking distance of Colosseum and local eateries and bars. Metro is convenient nearby and easy to purchase tickets at station machines as instructions in English. The nuns at Istituto Il Rosario couldn't be nicer and go to great pains to help with any requests. We loved them! The garden was an oasis of peace and we slept well as the air conditioning was quiet and efficient. Breakfast was included and basic but adequate. Our happy stay made us fall in love with Rome.
Denise - New South Wales, Australia (August 2013)
Very clean and close to the ancient Roman sights.
Donald - NC, United States (June 2013)
It was a wonderful stay.

Scott - New South Wales, Australia (May 2012)
Lovely Nuns, very friendly and kind
Gerard - Victoria, Australia (May 2012)
I enjoyed my stay in Istituto Il Rosario. The nuns and staff are very friendly and willing to help. The room is a good size, but the bathroom of the room assigned to me is quite small.
The breakfast was good and adequate. They have different types of bread, jams, pate and different kinds of cereals. I love their home made yogurt.
The garden at the 2nd floor is so nice. I love the fragrance of the flowers of, I was told, the orange tree. It is just so pleasant to stay there. I also love the view from the rooftop.
Marilyn - , Philippines (April 2012)
A wonderful welcome from the sisters. An ideal location and a very welcome garden.
John - Devon, United Kingdom (August 2011)
Everyone was very friendly and it was very quiet considering how central it is.
Carol - Bucks, United Kingdom (May 2011)
The convent is well situated for the major attractions of Rome. The map provided was very good. Breakfast was good and being able to use the internet was a big help.
Denise - Queensland, Australia (April 2011)
We really enjoyed our stay. Everyone was SO nice and helpful. It is in a wonderful location yet is very quiet. When we wanted a cab, they had one there in 2 minutes. We look forward to our next visit.
Laura - IL, United States (March 2011)
Everything especially the people Location and staff.
Francine - Northern Territory, Australia (September 2010)
We had a very nice room. It was very clean quite and the court yard gave it a great atmosphere.
We recommended friends look into staying at one on their next visit to Italy. Good location, Clean. Comfortable. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
Anita - Ontario, Canada (September 2010)
Good breakfast, comfortable room, clean, well maintained. It was quiet and organised. Curfew could have been later than 11pm.
Zoe - New South Wales, Australia (August 2010)
Run very professionally, but with a sense of genuine caring and safety. Immaculately clean; nuns and other staffers tried very hard to be helpful even with language barrier; common areas of facility was charming, with flower-scented garden in back; Plus there was broadband computer available off the lobby, a great convenience. Breakfast was fairly uninspiring (although perfectly adequate).
Brenda - NY, United States (April 2010)
It couldn't have been a better experience. We recommend it without qualifications. Room was clean and bathroom was unusually large. The roof garden was beautiful and perfect for relaxing or eating a picnic lunch. Also appreciated the flowers throughout the building. The sisters were kind and friendly. Breakfasts were ample. And the computer made staying in touch with family at home a breeze. Everything was good. Have been recommending since we returned.
Joan - PA, United States (May 2009)
The quality of the room was exactly what you would expect a nun or priest to live in - basic but clean.
Quiet and peaceful. Cleanliness. Good opening hours.
Nuns at the desk were very pleasant. Small garden to wander in.
Internet access.
Jennifer - Australian Capital Territory, Australia (October 2008)
Use of the internet was an unexpected surprise. The little things made a big difference. We visited Rome in June when it was 96 degrees. The monastery provided water at a nominal cost. The breakfast was okay.
Joann - CT, United States (June 2008)
Clean, nice breakfast, good location check out time is quite early.
Gail - NJ, United States (May 2008)
I had thoughts that this monastery would be spartan but the sisters were friendly and helpful and the rooms were very clean. We were comfortable. The breakfast was much better than I expected. The yogurt and fresh rolls were very good. There was plenty of food even for an American.
We felt safe and secure in this area of Rome and the price was affordable.
Ken - MT, United States (April 2008)
Location was wonderful! Quiet, unobtrusive and friendly staff. Language barrier. I already have recommended.
Claudia - NC, United States (November 2007)
Our stay exceeded our expectations. Cleanliness, convenient to nearby attractions No complaints we already have recommended.
