House of the Suore Francescane di Santa Elisabetta
Casa per Ferie Suore Francescane di Santa Elisabetta (formerly: Istituto Figlie di Sant'Anna) is well located in the city center, providing well priced, very clean and comfortable accommodation with a warm welcome from the Sisters.
Well located to all the sites of central Florence, a short walk to the Duomo, Uffizi and other iconic galleries.
Rated 4.8 out of 5
I loved my weeklong stay. The nuns were warm and welcoming, the atmosphere calm and serene—enhanced by a beautiful garden and an in-house chapel, where guests are welcome to join the nuns as they sing and pray daily matins and vespers. Both lovely services. The accommodations are simple but more than adequate. I especially appreciated having access to a microwave and refrigerator. The Location is far enough from the very central area of Il Duomo and the Ufizzi to be quiet, but close enough to walk to without a lot of difficulty. And buses are very easy to take. It isn’t necessary to buy tickets. Tapping a credit card on entering is all that is needed. In short, I would highly recommend staying in this wonderful place.
This convent is operated by the Suore Francescane di Santa Elisabetta.

I felt so comfortable and safe here. I felt quite at home. The sisters were so welcoming and I was so grateful for their hospitality. I will forever remember my stay here and I would love to come back.
Gabriela - PA, United States (November 2022)
It was so good to feel welcomed by the sisters and not to have to put up with another hotel.
Nicholas - Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom (October 2022)
Local is fantastic, close to everything. I would stay here again. The nuns were very sweet, helpful and spoke English. Laundromat is close by and costs about 9 euros to wash and dry.
Katherine - CA, United States (October 2022)
We very much enjoyed our stay. Room was spacious, clen and comfortable with lots of storage. Within walking distance to most of the sites and to train station. We especially enjoyed the singing!
Bonnie - AB, Canada (October 2022)
It was wonderful. I was really well looked after by the nuns
Christine - , United Kingdom (October 2022)
Overall this is a very reasonable choice for a place to stay and the price was very reasonable. The sisters are lovely and the rooms simple, but clean and comfortable. We were late arriving due to flight delays and this was no problem. Our main issue was the mosquitoes. The windows were routinely left open and we each received several mosquito bites - there were no screens or insect protection available. We would also suggest that it would be nice to have a kettle available to heat some water for coffee or tea - there is a kitchen but it did not seem to have any supplies. There was a wardrobe with some hangers but no drawers or shelves - these would also be helpful.
Ellen - FL, United States (September 2022)
Great location near the SMN train station, clean rooms, good facilities, and the nuns were really helpful.
Elise M - ON, Canada (September 2022)
It waw very nice. Sisters were very pleasant and helpful. We strongly recommend this location

The sisters are so kind, and very helpful in times of crisis such as nearly missing curfew.
Daria-Rosemary - WA, United States (March 2022)
Very convenient location, and the nuns were very kind and friendly! There were some issues with the WiFi which unfortunately isn’t very strong, but the nuns were very helpful with trying to mitigate the situation.
Scarlett - NY, United States (January 2022)
I enjoyed my stay very much. The nuns were especially kind and tried very hard to teach me Italian. I would recommend this Monastery to anyone.

We had wonderful time in this accommodation. Very kind Sisters. Clean comfortable room. Beautiful garden. Good location.
Eiko - , Japan (October 2019)
The nuns are so lovely. If you want to have some love and care while away, this is the place to go. Rooms are clean and the kitchen very roomy and well-equipped for any cooking.
Miss - SA, Australia (September 2019)
The nuns were exceptionally competent and helpful as well as cute. Using google translator, they were able to help us enjoy Florence immensely. The room was great with a balcony overlooking the gardens. It was a little noisy into the night from several blocks away (musicians or discos) but not overwhelmingly so. Easy walk from train and to anyplace in Florence. Highly recommended as a good value.
John - MA, United States (September 2019)
Warm welcome from friendly nuns we had a pleasant stay.
Willem - WESTERN PROVINCE, South Africa (September 2019)
I had a lovely stay for 3 days in a nice big room with a much appreciated air conditioning.
I felt very welcome and would certainly stay there again if I should return to Firenze. Thank you to the Sisters for
their warm and caring way of meeting me.
Gitte Anna - , Denmark (July 2019)
We had a very pleasant stay here. The welcome we received was unsurpassed. The sisters managed to explain everything to us with the assistance of google translate and they were very warm and friendly. A great location and excellent value for money.
Barbara - , New Zealand (June 2019)
The lovely caring sisters of Maria & Antonia are beyond word, even though we relied heavily on google translate but we just managed to strike many conversation. As a solo female traveller this place made me feel safe, the room is clean, the location is 5 min walk from the train station. There is shared kitchen equipped with utensil and fridge, common place to eat. This place is surrounded by tons of cafe & bars, local fruit and veg market, phone shop to buy sim card, ATM machines etc. My room#1 is facing the garden with balcony and quiet at night. Highly recommended to anyone who are visiting Florence.
Yuen - Vic, Australia (June 2019)
I was very pleased with my stay and felt it was an excellent value for the money, and a great experience. It might be a good fit for everyone, but I would definitely stay again.
Nancy - MT, United States (May 2019)
The sisters are wonderfully welcoming in their grand motherly manner. I found the location a little far from the historic district only because I had walking problems on this trip. The convent is conveniently located between the main train station and centro, and has a tram stop at the end of its road.
The unexpected small kitchenette with our own fridge space was a treat allowing us to make our own breakfast or save leftover dinners.
It as fabulous having our own little balcony but it was too cold to have the doors open, sit out side for coffee, or to dry clothes which we could have done had it been warmer. The balcony overlooks the inner courtyard and very peaceful.
Judita - British Columbia, Canada (May 2019)
Sisters were very hospitable. Although no one spoke English we were able to communicate through Google Translate! Sister was quick to use this technology to assist our communication.
Sr. - MI, United States (May 2019)
Sisters Maria and Antonietta are very kind and accommodating. One night when we attended an Opera that ended late that we returned after the curfew, they still waited for us.
This is our second time to stay here. We highly recommend them if you are looking for a quiet, restful place to stay in Florence. And we will definitely book with Monastery Stay the next time we return to Italy.
Cecile - METRO MANILA, Philippines (April 2019)
We had a wonderful stay and would like to thank the sisters for their hospitality and friendliness.
Jean - Oxfordshire, United Kingdom (April 2019)
Sisters and staff are super friendly. It is very centrally located, 10 mins walk to Central market and the Duomo. Room is spacious and clean. Highly recommended!
Angela - WA, Australia (April 2019)
Sister Annamaria was absolutely lovely. The second we walked in she said the nuns always pray for all travellers that stay over. So how can you go wrong when you've got the precious daughters of God praying for you? My brother and I are grateful for Sister Annamaria and Mother Superior's kindness and we have recommended this stay to family and friends. When I come back to Florence this is where I will stay without a doubt!
Esther - CA, United States (March 2019)
This was by far our favourite monastery to stay in while in Italy for 28 days. Mainly because of the Sisters - they were amazing, so warm and friendly every day. They did not speak English but we communicated through Google Translate and they were very patient and helpful while I spoke in Italian, which I only had been learning for a short time. Every day they made me use Italian and my vocabulary increased dramatically in the week we stayed here. Every morning, one of them would be in the office when we dropped off the keys and would always be interested in what we were doing for the day. And every evening they would greet us when we got back from a day of site seeing and want to know what we had seen and done. I felt like we weren't alone in Italy and had people looking out for us while we stayed with them - I cried when we left them, I'd become so attached to them. We were in Florence November 2018 when big storms hit and they were so helpful with removing noisy bird deterents from the balconies that kept us awake one night in the wind. Nothing was a problem for them and they were so eager to please.
Very easy to walk to this monastery from the main train station.
Also had the best shower I had in Italy - water pressure was good and shower head was full spray. Rooms cleaned daily and fresh towels changed twice while I was there for 7 days.
No breakfast but were close to lots of cafes and take away so was not an issue.
Wifi was quick and always available.
I would base myself in Florence if I returned to Italy, just to stay with these Sisters again. This was the only place where I bought the Sisters some local chocolates to say thank you, that is how much we enjoyed our stay here.
David - QLD, Australia (October 2018)
We had a wonderful stay. The nuns were very warm and welcoming. Made us feel so blessed. Our best stay by far in Italy.
Anthony - , Singapore (October 2018)
I was very pleased with this accommodation. While the conversation with the Sisters was businesslike at the beginning when registering, over the four days I stayed there they were extremely friendly and hospitable, and expressed concern over my welfare, especially when I went on distant travel. Even though none of them spoke English, they were equipped with an efficient Translating App which made communication easy. The location of not even 5 minutes from SMN Firenze station was ideal for getting to most places easily, including restaurants and bakeries. I will definitely return there. I wish the Sisters the very best in their ministry.
Caesar - VIC, Australia (October 2018)
We were always welcomed and looked after by the sisters. They were wonderful. The room was simple but clean and comfortable and regularly serviced. The place was centrally located and I always felt it was a safe and secure environment. I would highly recommend this place especially to sole women travellers .
Adrienne - NSW, Australia (September 2018)
My stay at the Institute was wonderful.
Clean, quiet, well located. In my assessment I highlighted above all the human treatment the sisters had with me during the 4 days I stayed there.
Always worried to know if I was comfortable or how I had spent the day or how I was in health.
I have an unbeatable memory and I highly recommend it.
And I will surely return.
Maria - A CORUÑA, Spain (September 2018)
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at this convent for many reasons... First, the sisters are warm, welcoming and lovely. They speak Italian but we communicated easily with google translator. Second, the facility is very secure, clean and tranquil. The basic furnishings allowed me to focus on the purpose of my visit to Florence. The room was a bit larger than I expected and opened to a green courtyard. Third and last, I walked all over Florence from this location and walked to the convent from the train station very easily.
T - TX, United States (September 2018)
Lovely stay at this property. The location was close to the train station. You can walk in 10 minutes from the main train station. As I had not been to Florence before I took a taxi on arrival to make things easier and would recommend this. After that all the main sights are a walkable distance away. The people at the monastery were so friendly and kind. A very safe stay. Quiet at night. Great sleep. Lovely garden in the courtyard.
Jacquline - , New Zealand (September 2018)
Sister Anna Maria and Sister Anna Antonietta couldn't have been kinder and more welcoming. We enjoyed "talking" via Google translator! The convent is very quiet and clean, a good antidote to the frenzy of being a tourist in Florence. We would happily stay there again, and miss the easy friendship of the sisters.
Margaret - VT, United States (July 2018)
The Sisters were very helpful and understanding when I arrived with my very little italian words. Luckily she had the translator apps. Overall I am very happy with my stay.
Minda - Queensland, Australia (June 2018)
The sorelle of Istituto Figlie di Sant'Anna were so kind and welcoming. I was greeted by Sisters Annamaria and Antonietta, who made me feel right at home. Sister Annamaria she insisted we don't use the formal tense "Lei" in Italian but rather the more intimate "tu" - it was at that sort of warm and inviting atmosphere. Two other guests, women staying for the academic year and leaving later in the summer, were sweethearts too.
Not to mention the location is excellent especially if you have trains to catch at the station and/or want to be very close to the city center. It was a quick 10-20 minute walk to almost all of the big churches, museums, etc. on this side of the Arno - perhaps 5-10 minutes longer if you're going to the Oltrarno.
And another bonus: the garden is beautiful, and if you come in Spring it will be full of gorgeous roses.
I would highly recommend staying here.
Martina - NY, United States (June 2018)
This was our favorite stay. The nuns were so kind and helpful. They made us feel right at home. The nuns added a special touch of kindness and sincerity that made it a pleasure to stay. Location was terrific.
Camille - UT, United States (June 2018)
The sisters were very welcoming. We were greeted with smiles & hugs. The Italian/English mobile translation app made it easy to communicate & we enjoyed our conversations. The location is very close to the station & an easy walk to central Florence.
Cheryl - NSW, Australia (June 2018)
Lovely friendly sisters. Quiet room facing courtyard. Comfortable beds and good sized room. Furnishings quite dated but in good condition.
Mary - , New Zealand (May 2018)
The room was impeccably clean, large, and comfortable except for the bed. The sisters were lovely.
You can't beat the price for such a large room. It is also nice to have a shelf in the shared refrigerator.
Sheila - TX, United States (May 2018)
The sisters were so welcoming, they made our stay most memorable! The beds were very comfortable - for the price, this can't be beat! Would highly recommend.
Marguerite - PA, United States (April 2018)
I arrived quite early by night train and tried and asked if I could already come in. Sister Anna Maria opened the door to a very warm and welcoming stay at the monastery. With gestures and google translator she made sure we would always understand each other. Everybody was very kind, everything was tidy and clean, I slept great and enjoyed the room with garden view. I loved that there is a little kitchen for the guests to use. Great stay. I will love to come back there another time.
Mirjam - , Germany (February 2018)
The nuns couldn’t have been nicer or more helpful.
Elizabeth - VA, United States (December 2017)
Absolutely fantastic stay here. The sisters were lovely and very welcoming. They don't speak English but with my limited Italian and Google translate on their phone we were able to understand each other. It was only about 10 minutes walk from the main train station and an easy walk into the main part of town. The room was quite large and we had a balcony that overlooked the garden. Having a lift to go up and down from the second floor was also great. Very quiet. There was also a kitchenette we could use and space allocated in the fridge for each room so groceries didn't get mixed up. There is a Laundromat nearby and an American style diner nearby if you want something other than pizza or pasta.
Fiona - QLD, Australia (October 2017)
A lovely, quiet place to stay, with a wonderful welcome from lovely and helpful nuns. It is really close and convenient for the station or airport bus, but the area is residential, safe and pleasant. There is a lovely large and peaceful garden that our room looked out onto, and a kitchen to make tea and food any time with a fridge shelf to keep milk or food to cook. This more than makes up for no breakfast included, as you feel really at home making what you want when you want. It is an easy 10 minute walk to the Duomo through streets full of fun restaurants. I just love Monastary Stays which are simple, clean and practical, with authentic history too - so much more fun than Hotels.
Elizabeth - Hampshire, United Kingdom (October 2017)
I loved staying here. The nuns were extremely helpful and accommodating despite our language barrier. They made me feel completely at home. The room was clean, spacious and well equipped.
Cathy - NSW, Australia (September 2017)
Size of room was just right and room was cleaned everyday. Location is very near the train station and all the major sites. But the place was very quiet in the evening and the beds were very comfortable so we had a very good sleep throughout our stay. Sister Maria and the other nuns were very friendly and helpful even with the language barrier.
Cecile - METRO MANILA, Philippines (September 2017)
This place was excellent! Sisters were extremely helpful and kind. I really enjoyed my stay at Istituto Figlie di Sant'Anna and would strongly recommend this place to my friends.
Kuan-Yin - VIC, Australia (September 2017)
Staying at this location was a great decision. I was able to come and go easily and find places to eat that were budget options. I walked to all of the major attractions in Florence. The Sisters don't speak English and I don't speak Italian but Google Translate worked well. I felt very at home in my immaculately clean room and the atmosphere was very calm and quiet. Perfect for a vacation. I also used the kitchen for making a few meals in to save money and a grocery store was close by. I was a solo female traveler and felt safe and comfortable. Many thanks to the Sisters!
Karen - FL, United States (September 2017)
Wonderful stay!! Everyone was so welcoming, friendly and helpful. Location was so convenient to train station and walking to everything I needed. Would stay again without hesitation.
Katherine - WA, Australia (September 2017)
It was very good value for money. It was very conveniently located; in a quiet area but within easy walking distance of most sights and experiences. Also very close to the Santa Maria Novella railway station.
The room was a good size with a small balcony. There was air conditioning which was very welcome as it was quite hot in Florence while I was there. I also had access to a kitchen so didn't have to eat out all the time. There was a small supermarket close by and no shortage of bars etc.
The sisters were lovely.
Christine - SA, Australia (August 2017)
Clean, comfortable and peaceful. Lovely sisters. Nice chapel. Good WiFi. Walking distance to train station and most monuments. It was a great value. Thank you!
Casilda - CA, United States (July 2017)
This convent was just what we needed. The room was austere and immaculately clean. Good for our souls. It was very quiet and the a/c was a welcome relief from the heat. The location was five minutes away from the station and we were able to walk all over the city. Sisters Maria Louisa and Antoinette were gracious and accommodating.
The sisters were lovely, really friendly and helpful. I had a lovely stay.
Judith - Western Australia, Australia (June 2017)
Sisters very accommodating,we missed first night and they did not charge for it. no English but used a translation app that worked very well.Only down side no access to early morning coffee.
Gary - GA, United States (June 2017)
The nuns were so kind and helpful, and it was a wonderfully peaceful place to stay. Staying at the convent really enhanced my visit to Florence, and I would definitely use Monastery Stays again. Thank you!
Sylvia - , United Kingdom (May 2017)
The nuns are lovely. They speak no English but translator apps on our phones got us through just fine. The rooms are clean and large. It is a bit of a walk to the center of town but that makes for a quiet place to sleep.
Allison - MI, United States (May 2017)
It felt like we were at home: comfortable, welcoming, quiet, uncomplicated, and exactly right. Our stay was two weeks in May.
John - VA, United States (May 2017)

alan - BOURGOGNE, France (April 2017)
It was a delight to stay here, quiet, convenient, clean, and the nuns were very welcoming and friendly
Roger - , United Kingdom (April 2017)
Sister Anna was very helpful and a wonderful host and such a warm and loving person. The location was excellent and easy for me to walk to from the train station even with lugging my 25kg suitcase. The room was very spacious and balcony overlooking garden was so relaxing. The kitchen is basic but clean. Would be nice to have a microwave and kettle for heating food and boiling water. I enjoyed the quiet and peaceful surrounding and would stay there again.
Trina - , Singapore (April 2017)
Very nice and peaceful sanctuary in the middle of busy Florence. Pretty garden and beautiful sounds of birds. Walking distance to train stations, attractions, eateries and supermarket. Sisters are very friendly and helpful. Beautiful chapel and mass every morning.
Tan - , Singapore (March 2017)
The Sisters were so sweet and kind and made us feel so welcomed. It was by far our favorite place to stay during our 4 week trip. Without hesitation, we would recommend these sweet sisters.
Teresa - TX, United States (December 2016)
The sisters were very warm and welcoming and made my visit very enjoyable. They were always on hand to help out and as it was particularly cold in Florence in November, brought me extra blankets. They also allowed me to print out my boarding pass. I chose the the convent because it is within very easy walking distance of trains and coaches and I wanted to make the most of my day and a half in Florence. It proved very convenient and an excellent choice. There is also a small kitchen equipped with pans and plates to cook a simple meal in the evening and space in the refrigerator to store food. I also liked it because it didn't include breakfast and I wanted to get out early to reach the museums by 8.15. Altogether I was very happy with my choice and would go back again. If I had one reservation it is that the internet connection was rather slow but perhaps that is the case in much of Florence. The room was very spacious with a balcony overlooking the garden and an excellent shower. Highly recommended.
Sarah - London, United Kingdom (November 2016)
Sister Ana Maria was really welcoming and was always checking on us.
I enjoyed chatting with her about what I did that day.
Maniya - , Singapore (October 2016)
The Sisters of St. Anne (only 4 of them left) were delightful. Even though I spoke only a little Italian we were able to communicate. The place was spotless, quiet and having a shelf in a refrigerator and a full kitchen to use saved me money. Where else can you get good-bye hugs when you are checking out? A+ all around!
Barbara - GA, United States (October 2016)
This is an outstanding place with the most lovable 4 nuns ever!!! although they didn't speak English the Google translate on iphone was easy and fun. I was not ready to leave after 6 nights, I felt I was at home. They were so very caring and the other women boarders who work in Florence were very welcoming. I felt I was in a very safe caring place. My room was huge and a balcony onto the garden made it seem like I was on a farm in the country. Birds, gorgeous fruit trees peace and quite!! A must stay and only blocks to the public market, Duomo and rail.
Diane - British Columbia, Canada (October 2016)
Sr. Anna Maria was warm and welcoming. We enjoyed meeting the sisters. The accommodations were more than satisfactory.
Karen - MA, United States (October 2016)
We would definitely come back and would recommend Istituo Figlie di S. Anna to any of our friends. We felt "at home" from the minute we were welcomed at the door, and were sad to leave the wonderful sisters at the end of our visit.
Mary - TN, United States (September 2016)
I really felt like home and being welcomed by my real sisters.
I stayed there before and after my hike to Assisi and upon my return, I was expected like a son.
What more can one say?

Rudy - , Singapore (July 2016)
The place is tranquil with a beautiful courtyard. Florence is a very busy city with lots of tourists during summer. So it is good place to be away from such noise.
Ito - , Japan (July 2016)
Huge room with a balcony. Very clean. Close to the train station (6 minute walk) and a 10-15 minute walk to downtown. Streets are always busy at night so I felt very safe walking back alone at 11 for 11:30 curfew. The nuns do not speak English but use a translator app with which I had no issues. I could not be more thrilled with my stay.
I really appreciated my stay at Istituto Figlie di S. Anna. The place is well located at a walking distance from the railway station and near the historical center. I received a very warm and friendly welcome from the sisters. I don't speak italian but we spoke spanish. My room was spacious, simple, very calm and clean with silent air conditioning.Beautiful simple chapel where I could attend the mass.If I were to return to Florence I will return there. I recommend this place.Thank you to the sisters !
Odile - , France (July 2016)
Very good hospitality.
Mark - British Columbia, Canada (June 2016)
We felt very welcomed by the sisters into their home. The accommodation was simple but perfectly clean safe and quiet. We even had a balcony overlooking the garden. We don't speak Italian but it was no problem as Sister Anna Maria used a translator app on her phone to explain everything on our arrival. We would definitely stay again if we returned to Florence.
Gregory - Victoria, Australia (June 2016)

Linda - NY, United States (June 2016)
Very welcoming. Did not speak English but used a phone app to communicate when necessary. I had a large single room with a balcony.
Extremely quiet location, near to bus stops and a short walk from the train station. I used the kitchen to cook some meals. Good budget accommodation.
Sheila - Avon, United Kingdom (May 2016)
We were a bit late arriving, as we got lost. The sisters were so welcoming and embraced us warmly. They are beautiful ladies, full of warmth and kindness. They are very proud of their lovely house and garden, and rightly so.
We loved being there, with Sister Anna Maria using her iPhone to translate, thus overcoming the language barrier.
We had a balcony which overlooked the garden and was very private. Just be sure to shut the screen door, or the mosquitoes will eat you alive.
Helen - Victoria, Australia (May 2016)
Highly recommended. Very much enjoyed my stay. Sisters welcoming, helpful and lovely. I can't speak Italian, but able to communicate via Translate app on Sister Anna Maria's phone. Beautiful simple chapel. Beautiful clean room with ensuite bathroom and balcony overlooking garden. Kitchen with fridge, stove, coffeemaker. Location only a few blocks walk from main train station and able to walk to main centre and attractions. Several eating places nearby and small supermarket 2 blocks away. Florence is a beautiful city, so much to see, experience and enjoy. I would love to come back.
Julie - Nepal, Nepal (May 2016)
Also, the gardens were a much-appreciated respite area. And, the Sisters made us feel very welcome at daily Mass.
Lisa - CO, United States (April 2016)
We very much enjoyed our stay. The Sisters were very helpful and accommodating. We were treated like family. They spent the time upon our arrival helping us settle in and this was greatly appreciated. If we return to Florence we will definitely go back there to stay.

Lovely warm welcome. Patience and fun overcame language barrier. Location terrific for exploring Florence. I was ill while there and the nuns werer absolutely fantastic in getting me to medical help.

The rooms on the yard side are very silent regarding traffic noise. At around 6 o'clock in the Morning you can hear some noise from the kitchen and the corridoor when the long term inhabitans are leaving for work. There is a small balcony in each room towards the garden. The atmosphere is extremely friendly and safe.

I received a very warm welcome from the sisters. It was like I had arrived home. Great place to stay.
