Casa Don Secchiaroli is a grand town villa which expands behind a beautiful red carpeted entrance. Modern rooms and common areas are all beautifully presented. Well connected to the main attractions the Florence has to offer.
Well located in a quiet area just north of the historic center, ideal for all the sights of central Florence, from the Ponte Vecchio to the Pitti Palace, Fiesole hills and more.
Rated 4.1 out of 5
The gentlemen who helped us was lovely and went above and beyond to situate us with details about buses, restaurants and grocery stores. The Casa is a gem. It feels like a private, stately mansion. We were unaware of other guests. The location is residential but easily accessible to many features. The only minor downside if you are a light sleeper, request a room facing the courtyard and not the street.
This monastery is operated by the Gestione Famiglia Basagni.
Presenting magnificently restored woodwork, frescoes and guest areas over several floors. Outside there is a peaceful Art Nouveau style garden for guests.
No Mass is held. Guests can access chapel on request.
Breakfast is not included in the price. There are cafe and dining options within walking distance of the guest house.

Casa Secchiaroli was a wonderful place to stay while in Florence. The room was very clean and spacious, and the building was quite lovely otherwise. The bed was very large and comfortable, and there was plenty of storage space. My room had a very effective air conditioning unit, and I presume the other units did as well. It was great to come back to a cool room after a spending each day in the historic centre during a heat wave. The staff were also very helpful and friendly. My only regret was that the building is located quite far from the historic center. Otherwise -a great place to stay!
Caroline - Ontario, Canada (June 2017)
Excellent location. Very comfortable facilities. Easy to get to by bus.
Debra - Ontario, Canada (July 2015)
The rooms are spacious and very clean, as was the bathroom. The young director and his father were very helpful. The building itself is beautiful. This is one Monastery Stay where you are given the key and there is no curfew, if that may be important to you. It is a two to four mile walk to most major attractions. Otherwise, convenient bus lines, and the Director will not hesitate to procure a taxi for you, if you need one. For the price, I find the Monastery Stay residencies to be an outstanding value. and would use them again for future travel where their services are available.

This beautiful Villa is managed by an outstanding young man and his industrious team. Nothing was too much trouble and what a plus to have the manager speaking fluent english. This is a beautiful establishment with lovely furnishing and quiet surroundings to enjoy. The bus stops directly outside the Villa.

A great place to stay. Lots of character and quite an interesting building. Great value for money.
Bence - Victoria, Australia (August 2013)
They changed the linen everyday! They cleaned the room everyday! They were extremely helpful, polite and welcoming. This is a fabulous place, quiet, great local area to experience Florence outside the old (and very touristy) centre. While it was sparse, I thought it was fabulous for what is was and for the price! Excellent value.
Judith - South Australia, Australia (May 2013)
Our room was very clean and much bigger than we expected. And we didn't expect someone to come in to fix the beds and replace the towels for our short 2-night stay. It was a very pleasant experience.
Lynda - WI, United States (May 2013)
Rooms are large, spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated with antique furniture. Keys are provided so you are free to come and go as you please. The location is out of the tourist area but easily accessible by bus. Bus stop just a few steps fromm the house. Public transit is very good. The brother who looks after the office is very kind. His English is limmited but he does his best to answer any questions. There is no breakfast here but there is a vending machine for drinks, snacks and coffee. There are excellent services nearby. These services cater mainly to the local trade so prices and quality are very good. The brothers also have a list of restaurants in the area.
C Isabelle - Alberta, Canada (October 2012)
Great location (only 15 minutes walk to centre of Florence); no breakfast, but great bar only 20 metres away serving yummy food (opens early); biggest drawback was the number of steps (46 & no lift); building, fittings & gardens could do with some maintenance & sprucing up.
Arnolda - Queensland, Australia (September 2012)
The care was excellent and very friendly Staff
Jose - New South Wales, Australia (July 2012)
Very friendly welcoming venue. The rooms are very clean and the building has some lovely old features so you know you are staying in a historic building. There is a bus service right outside the front of the building or multiple bus routes from just down the street. This venue is a good 10-15 minute walk from the heart of the city however for me that meant a good nights sleep. The taxi fare is only about 5 euro.
Helen - South Australia, Australia (March 2012)
People do not speak English here, however, it does not seem to be a problem as the staff are prepared with the paperwork from Monasterystays and are expecting you. Very accommodating staff, you are free to come and go as you please, no curfews etc, however, does not feel like a community house as everything is independent.
Danuta - Victoria, Australia (November 2011)
This is a cute little place, accessible by the 1 bus from the train station and an easy walk into downtown. No curfew is nice. Only complaint is that they don't speak English, at all. The priests who checked us in and out had to call a woman who spoke borderline incomprehensible broken English in order to get anything done, and we almost missed our train because check-out took so long. If I were to stay there again, I would make sure I can communicate these basic things in Italian. Other than that, they were very nice and the place is beautiful, especially for the price.
Elizabeth - MA, United States (November 2011)
Only issue we had was language. The woman, very nice, spoke no English and we very little Italian. Her son was there, thank goodness. otherwise it may have been a real problem..Also coffee would have been good!!
Karen - KY, United States (July 2011)
Quiet and comfortable with friendly staff. I appreciated the fact that towels were changed every day. The only thing I needed to ask the staff was to change bed sheets (website says changed once per week).
Elizabeth - OH, United States (June 2011)
A great experience. We were free to come and go as we pleased. The room was very spacious and clean. The street on which the monastery is located was rather busy in the morning, which became quite noisy which proved difficult for sleep beyond 6am. It could be of benefit on arrival to be given some instructions about payment on departure. When we were leaving there was no-one in the office and we had to search out the lady who was cleaning - she knew we had to pay and had been provided with a bill/receipt for us and so took the money from us.
Mark - New South Wales, Australia (June 2011)
We were quite pleased. The room was very large, with comfortable beds and windows we could open. Clean. Excellent modern bathroom. Be prepared to carry your suitcases up flights of stairs. The family running the place were very kind and helpful. Suggestion: It would be helpful to have some drinking cups in the room and some bar soap. As breakfast is not included, a small fridge would be helpful for travellors.
Lois - Ontario, Canada (June 2011)
The staff were lovely and very hospitable. The room was on the 3rd floor no lift -- ok for us, but not for folks with a disability.
Rene - CA, United States (May 2011)
The service was hit or miss, mostly miss. When we arrived and buzzed to get in, we were not even answered. It took someone who lived there to let us in. Since she lived there, she found another lady who handled reception a bit more, but spoke little English. She apologized that she didn't hear us. Then she took a call while checking us in and passed our check-in to a boy of no more than 14 years old! He knew English a bit more, and led us to our room without too much more explanation. We tried asking what we do if we have questions about the city, etc. and he didn't really answer. We ended up doing a lot on our own because of this and it was frustrating and scary at times. We sort of figured out the staff's "hours"; either catch them in the a.m. while they're cleaning or around 4-6 p.m. when they are at home cooking dinner. Unbelievable. However, there was one bright spot. We really felt welcomed by the laundry man there and chatted a lot with him. Otherwise, the staff was pretty non-existent.
Rebecca - WI, United States (April 2011)
Good location, easy access to sites, restaurants. Comfortable rooms, reasonable prices. Sunday - lack of an English speaker could be a problem if needed something important, but we didn't.
Michael - WA, United States (October 2010)
Nice size room and nicely equipped bathroom. Daily fresh towels and beds were made. Felt safe. We found a bank machine and a good restaurant in the neighborhood. The nearby bus stop and taxi stand (with public phones nearby) were useful and convenient. There was also a small market in the nearby small piazza and pharmacies with late hours that we didn't visit but were glad to know were there. Staff friendly. It's a pretty place. Difficult to communicate with staff.
