The nearby Sanctuary of Saint Michael the Archangel is another popular site for Catholic pilgrimages and was visited by Pope John Paul II in 1987.

Our family loved our stay at Casa Pace e Bene! We were only in San Giovanni Rotondo for a short time, but we were made to feel very welcome. God's blessings, and many thanks to Mother and the Sisters for their hospitality, and humour! I had left our bilingual introduction letter in Rome (I strongly against doing this!), but providentially we were able to sort things out. If God brings us back to SGR, this is where we will be. Highly recommended! |

I've always stayed in convents during my pilgrimages with a small group so I knew what to expect. Private secure parking for our van, warm and hospitable nuns, very close to fruit stand, was 2 kms. away from Padre Pio's church but was not really a problem for us because we had our own private transport. This would be an issue for those who don't have private transportation. |
