House of the Monache Benedettine Olivetane
This ancient monastery is a perfect stop for those wishing to visit a historic town in the Italy's beautiful southern region of Puglia. The capital, Bari, is only a short drive away while the township of Palo del Colle is within walking distance.Palo del Colle has a rich history dating back to ancient Greek and Roman settlement. The town sits on a hill and dominates a wide and flat territory, making it ideal for military defense. In fact, the town became the center of the Greek colony because of this position. Those travelers who enjoy architectural masterpieces will like the town's Santa Maria della Porta Cathedral, which dates back to the 12th century.

General Transport History
The lodging was originally built in the 9th century at the request of Archbishop James the first and was given to nuns belonging to the order of Saint Basil. The nuns of Saint Basil eventually joined the Benedictine order and are still present today.Customer Reviews

I enjoyed my stay at the Palo del Colle monastery. The sisters were very attentive and hospitable and the room was perfect. The walk to the monastery is only 10 minutes and an easy walk. |
