Fred - NC, United States (May 2024)
Myself and my two travel companions stayed in a triple room for four days at the monastery. We all had an amazing time. The monastery is impeccably clean, quiet, and centrally located. Some of the protocols took time to get used to, such as leaving our key behind whenever we left, the 11pm curfew, and maneuvering around the school hours, but the stay was so lovely that I can’t complain. The air conditioner in our room did not work and we weren’t able to open the windows due to mosquitoes, but we still slept like babies after long days of walking around the city. WiFi is limited to the common areas and data roaming is unreliable during the day inside the monastery. But there is a vending machine for espresso and cappuccino and the water pressure in the shower is amazing! Highly recommend for anyone visiting Venice for the first time on a budget. I hope to return one day.
Natalie - CA, United States (May 2024)

Eileen - FL, United States (May 2024)
Pantry was well equipped with microwave, utensils, dishwasher and refrigerator which was a plus point as we were handling some simple food preparation
Agnes - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (April 2023)
This was the perfect place to discover Venice. 5 minutes from the San Marco Square and public transportation. A gondola at the front door! The room was quiet and clean. The nuns were awesome. We felt safe and secure and enjoyed this stay immensely.

Veronique - , France (June 2022)
Thank you so much for everything!
I feel so bad that I missed Mass on the last day I was there. I was planning to meet up with another lady from France who was also planning on attending, but I slept through my alarm and then I had to rush off in time to make it to Burano. Please send her my contact if you hear from her.
I am so grateful for being able to meet with you and to stay.
God bless you and thank you!

Great location, Covid restrictions meant access to common room restricted. Would have liked more comfortable chair for reading/ relaxing. Other than that had wonderful stay, everyone was kind and helpful, would certainly stay again thank you.

Great place, great location and lovely nuns.
Elizabeth - , United Kingdom (August 2020)
We love the Istituto San Giuseppe. The nuns and other staff were very friendly and welcoming and our chats with other guests over meals in the communal dining room were a highlight of our stay. The proximity of the convent to an excellent supermarket meant that we felt in control of our meals - a very important factor for us.
Margaret - WA, Australia (October 2019)
This is a fabulous place to stay in Venice. It couldn’t be more central and the accommodation is everything one could wish for: comfortable, exceptionally clean and quiet.
The sisters and the lay staff are wonderfully welcoming and it feels more like staying in a private home than a hotel, yet with all the privacy one could wish for.
Mellie - , United Kingdom (October 2019)
Comfortable and clean.
Stanley - , New Zealand (September 2019)
An entirely delightful experience.

The location was excellent.
Monica - ON, Canada (August 2019)
I was made to feel very welcome at the Convent by all the staff at Reception and the nuns. The place was peaceful, quiet and spacious with very good facilities. There were two very good vending machines, one serving excellent cheap coffee and the other one serving cheap water, drinks and snacks. There was a breakfast kitchen room with huge fridge, kettle, microwave which was very convenient for breakfast. Each guest has a plastic tray to put in their food, milk etc, outside convent there was an excellent Spar/co-op convenience store. As I checked out I left my luggage there for day, came and had lunch I had bought, washed and changed and set off for the airport vaporetto. I would love to stay there again.
Paul - WestSussex, United Kingdom (July 2019)

Peter - , United Kingdom (November 2018)
I could do without the 11 pm curfew but otherwise this was a great place to stay. The room was perfect for the price and the location is very close to San Marco. Sister Sharon and the other attendant were very informative and helpful.
John - LA, United States (November 2018)
An excellent accommodation, great location - close to all the sights we wanted to see. We were lucky to be in Venice before the rains flooded the town. We especially enjoyed being able to use the common room to fix meals if we chose.
Robert - WA, United States (October 2018)
Very friendly, very welcoming of older women. Very clean. Common room created opportunity to make new friends. Great location.
Marijean E - WA, United States (October 2018)
The Sisters and staff at the front desk were very pleasant and helpful. We enjoyed chatting with various guests from around the world. The location is excellent and there are plenty of eateries nearby to enjoy a good meal.
Colleen M - VA, United States (October 2018)
The staff was very friendly. The location is excellent. The room is very basic and quiet. It was one of the least expensive places we could find in Venice. If you are ok with basic, this place is good.
Nancy - WA, United States (October 2018)
Very welcoming clean and within walking distance for wherever we went. Just loved our stay
Janet - QC, Canada (September 2018)
It was the most wonderful stay, the location was perfect, the staff were so helpful, considerate and friendly.
Susan - Western Australia, Australia (September 2018)
We enjoyed coming back to the peacefulness of the monastery. A quiet oasis compared to the hustle and bustle on Venice
Kerry - Victoria, Australia (August 2018)
It was a great experience. We enjoyed the quiet, the central location, and of course, the air conditioned rooms. The BEST experience was Martina - great referrals for meals, and an energetic list of options for travel to the airport (seamless travel). She is wonderful!
James - CO, United States (August 2018)
The nuns went out of their way to make our stay a pleasant one.
The staff walked us to meeting area for our tour, we would have been too late without their help.
The building was very clean & very safe.
Diane - ON, Canada (July 2018)
This stay was awesome! It's located in the middle of everything. The nuns are very pleasant and I would definitely stay here again. Thanks!
Jordan - TX, United States (July 2018)
Wonderful location, fantastic staff, good internet, very clean, good wifi in breakfast room. Loved to see the children weekday mornings as we headed out to explore Venice.
Susan - TX, United States (June 2018)
At first I thought that the monastery will be an old building, but I was surprised that they had renovated the guest rooms. The rooms are clean and beds comfortable. Staffs and nuns are very friendly, although the nuns have limited English skills. It is a new experience for me to stay in a monastery - school. Very recommended ^_^
Noviyanti - West Java, Indonesia (June 2018)
Lovely centrally located place to stay. So much more than a room.
Mark - BC, Canada (June 2018)
The staff, venue and location were perfect. I really appreciated the friendly staff, always helpful, and it was wonderful to stay in such a quiet building, so close to San Marco, at what was low cost for Venice.
It was also enriching to catch up with other guests in the day-room, having the opportunity for a chat and to exchange travel notes.
What I did not enjoy was that one of the walls in my room was not solid, which amplified the sounds from the next room, being a light sleeper. This Receptionist Martina was a gem and a great source of information about Venice.
Evelyne - WA, Australia (May 2018)
A lovely monastery. The staff at the door were very helpful.
Susan - ON, Canada (May 2018)
We loved staying at this property and loved the sisters. The staff were lovely, helpful and kind.
The location is perfect.
My only issue is that because it is a school children arrive early and it is very loud from the room. You will be woken up very early. We did not know this upon booking.
It’s okay for us but the Wi-Fi does not really wok in the rooms.
Lisa - CA, United States (May 2018)
Great location and very quiet despite being so close to San Marco. Staff were extremely helpful and lovely.
The location was great and quite near to San Marco. Our check-in was easy and Marina recommended a wonderful restaurant. The neighborhood was very quiet. The room itself was plain and functional, but the value was terrific.
Nancy - CA, United States (April 2018)
It was a wonderful experience. We loved the calm and feeling of the building being used as a school and a guest house. All the nuns and other staff charming and helpful. Situation brilliant as such easy access to the vaporetto in both directions. Only tiny criticism is of the coffee in the machine! However, it is easy to go and get a coffee quickly nearby. Beds really comfortable and shower amazingly good.
Heather - N/A, United Kingdom (April 2018)
The location was stunning. There is a gondola stop outside the door, so every time that I emerged into the light I was hit by a vision of Total Venice - canal, little bridge, gondola, coffee shop. Fantastic. My only suggestion would be that the sisters invest in some mosquito nets for the windows. The room became hot at night, even in April. There is a fan, which I couldn't get working, but I would have preferred a mosquito net so that I could open the windows, feel the night breeze, and hear the sounds of the city.
Annabel - City Of Bristol, United Kingdom (April 2018)
The accommodations were quiet in the midst of crowded Venice. Close to San Marco and the vaporettos. We used the kitchen quite often, and the sitting room under the sunlit atrium. Enjoyed hearing the children of the school. All in all, enjoyed our stay and the friendly help of the staff in the office.
Rosanne - CO, United States (April 2018)
Great stay!
Carol - ME, United States (March 2018)
This is an absolutely wonderful place to stay in Venice. It is a short walk to San Marco and conveniently located for lots of other sites in the city. The nuns are a treasure. We will return there the next time we are in Venice.
Angela - MD, United States (March 2018)
The staff was extremely professional and helpful.
Janet - CA, United States (March 2018)
Concierge was helpful and friendly.
Nice quiet room.
Catherine - NSW, Australia (November 2017)
It is close to St. Mark Square and the staff did everything possible to make us feel at home.
Lawrence - IL, United States (October 2017)
the wifi could have been better, otherwise it was a great stay.
Pauline - Vic, Australia (October 2017)
Great location. 10 minute from the vaporetto and less than 20 minute walk Biennale Giardini and Arsenale sites. Rooms are basic and clean - much better than other places we have stayed for higher prices in central Venice.
Tegan - Ontario, Canada (September 2017)
I was there in school term time. It was lovely to feel part of normal Venetian life. The staff were friendly and helpful.
Dorothy - , United Kingdom (September 2017)

Very convenient location. It was fun having the school children use the facility during the day. Good value for the money. I will return.
Dale - MN, United States (September 2017)
The sisters were welcoming and it was easy to speak English with most. Otherwise we drew on our limited Italian yo communicate. Beautiful location in the heart of Venice!
Monica - BC, Canada (September 2017)
Great location. Staff friendly and helpful. Room basic, but very clean, and very quiet. Really enjoyed our stay though, and would be happy to consider Monastery Stays again in the future.

The Sisters were very kind and welcoming. It was a real pleasure to meet them. The sound of their evening prayer will stay with me for long as a cherished memory.
Hermina - Ontario, Canada (September 2017)
Perfect location in Venice. Large clean and quiet rooms.
Handy kitchen for a fast meal or breakfast.
Coffee machine very handy for early mornings.
Violaine - , France (September 2017)
Such a pleasure to have been able to stay at Istituto San Giuseppe. Couldn't have been in a better location, we were made to feel very welcome, rooms were basic but perfectly adequate & immaculately clean. The nuns and staff were lovely. Preschool wasn't in while we were there because it was during the summer, but it would have been fabulous to see the children there. Very peaceful, quiet place to stay in Venice.
Angela Jayne - British Columbia, Canada (August 2017)
Great location (the card with a map showing how to get to Realto Bridge and St. Marks Square was very helpful). The sisters were very nice. The room was comfortable and immaculate. For us, it was a great place to stay.
Karl - VA, United States (August 2017)
Great location ! Location on a canal that you can have a water taxi take you from the train station to the convent.
James - FL, United States (August 2017)
We'd never stayed in a monastery before so we didn't know what to expect. Now this is the way we will likely travel from now on. Sister Sharon was sweet and helpful. The building also houses a school (during school months) and the architecture was awesome. We asked about attending Mass in the chapel, but it was under renovation. Sister Sharon invited us to Mass with her in S. Mark's Basilica, a couple of short blocks away. So the next morning we headed to St. Mark's piazza early before the crowds, and after watching the morning light come into the beautiful square we went to a moving Mass that Sister Sharon told us about. What an experience!
Rosana - CA, United States (July 2017)
What a friendly place this is, without exception everyone was so helpful and would make time for you even when they were already pretty busy! The location is also brilliant, right in the heart of Venice, with just about everything we needed within a couple of minutes walk. Loved it!
Phil - Middlesex, United Kingdom (June 2017)
We are so glad we heard about Istituto San Giuseppe. It was a great base for us with our three year old daughter - convenient and quiet. The sisters were lovely and the room had everything we needed.
Lucinda - Act, Australia (May 2017)
Quiet and warm.
Marie-Laure - , France (May 2017)
Excellent location, friendly staff.
Melinda - Vic, Australia (May 2017)
The staff were warm, friendly and very accommodating. Unfortunately we were only able to spend 1 night in Venice due to a problem with our train travel, we would have loved to have stayed longer.
Gail A - VIC, Australia (April 2017)
Outstanding - a beautiful and convenient place to stay. Will definitely book in here for my next visit.
Margaret - Western Australia, Australia (April 2017)
We enjoyed our stay immensely, and the location was fabulous. Thank you.
Rosemary - ON, Canada (April 2017)
The sisters were very sweet. If you just need a clean, quiet place to sleep and bathe, Istituto serves the purpose. The location is good. But it's a very "basic" site. The bed was very comfortable, but the lighting in the room was minimal.
Frankie - CA, United States (March 2017)
It was a lovely place to stay. The staff and nuns were so helpful, especially since we had to leave very early in the morning. They made the phone calls, negotiated the price, and arranged for our water taxi to pick us up at 4:30 A.M.! I loved the entire experience of staying in this place, and would stay here again if I ever return to Venice.
Jon - IN, United States (March 2017)
We had a wonderful stay in Instituto San Giuseppe.
The place is really quiet and near San Marco Square, so that's great !
We will certainly come back if we go back to Venezia one day.
We want to thank everyone for their warm welcome.
Emmanuelle - FR, France (November 2016)
Absolutely superb. Amazing experience.
Peter - CAPE, South Africa (October 2016)
We really enjoyed our stay- the staff and nuns were extremely welcoming and friendly.
Alicia - South Australia, Australia (October 2016)
We truly enjoyed our stay, it was a great location! The staff at the check in and check out were all very friendly and helpful, The nuns also! Our room was perfect a, a clean quiet haven above the maze of Venice! The shower was wonderful! Bathroom and room Spotless!
Lucy - IL, United States (October 2016)
The staff and Sisters are very welcoming and relaxed. The room was very clean and well kept, as well were the grounds. I had a lovely stay and would highly recommend Instituto San Guiseppe.
Nicole - NY, United States (September 2016)
A great place to stay. The only disadvantage (for couples) is that they only have twin bed rooms, but we pushed the beds together and that was fine.
Louis - MD, United States (August 2016)
The place is excellent. Very nice people, a lot of peacefull in the place.
I really appreciate my time in Isituto San Giuseppe.
Jorge - , Switzerland (August 2016)
Loved every minute especially the nuns! Molte Grazie!
Theresa - MI, United States (August 2016)
Brilliant place and would strongly recommend to anyone
Prue - Oxfordshire, United Kingdom (July 2016)
Great location for the city. The sisters and staff at the Istituto were very helpful and kind.
Paul - Warwickshire, United Kingdom (June 2016)
Our stay in June was delightful and our rooms were kept pleasantly cool by the aircon in the very hot weather. The Sisters made us very welcome. Would certainly return when next in Venice.
Peter - Merseyside, United Kingdom (June 2016)
Beautiful monastery. Very friendly staff and nuns. Great location, and beautiful view. Very easy to access, less than 5 min walk from St Mark's Basilica. Our internet did not work very well in the room, but worked well in the common room.
Lauren - WA, United States (June 2016)
The welcome by the sisters, and the service from the office staff during our stay were charming.
On arrival we were advised that tea and coffee were available in the upstairs sitting area, but this nice facility, which we found the next day was not shown to us. When we tried to access the sitting area on the first evening upon our return from the theatre we were advised that such was available in our room, which surprised us, as we had not seen any when we checked in. After going to our room we went down to the kitchen where we boiled water and luckily found two cups, which we took up to our room as the kitchen is definitely not conducive to sitting in, although guests were using it to access a computer and to watch TV.
Upon making our reservation we were unaware that the Instituto actually operates a kindergarten.
I hope our feedback will be welcomed as positive, and thank you for the opportunity to comment formally.
Harald - Como, Italy (June 2016)
We loved the Monastery, it was well located and clean.
Anthony - Victoria, Australia (June 2016)
A lovely, warm, friendly base from which to explore Venice. Centrally situated and fairly easy (in terms of Venice!) to find. Highly recommended.
Janine - Western Cape, South Africa (May 2016)
Everyone at the Istituto San Giuseppe was very nice. They were accommodating and showed us every courtesy. It was a very interesting experience and the location and overall value in Venice could not be beat.

Barbara - Ontario, Canada (May 2016)
It was excellent to use the map of another visitor - this helped us to find the Istituto San Guiseppe relatively easily. Sisters and staff were delightful. And very helpful giving us a map of Venice. Rooms were spacious and had very comfortable beds.
Janet - Victoria, Australia (May 2016)
Very nice sisters run this convent.
Thomas - CA, United States (May 2016)
It was wonderful. Very Nice and helpful staff. Great location though a bit hard to find but what isn't, in Venice?
Roger - Manitoba, Canada (May 2016)
Our stay here was very good. Location was very good as it was very near to Rialto bridge and San Marco. Initially we had problems locating the monastery but once we found it, we managed to get around easily.
June - , Singapore (April 2016)
I was made to feel so welcome by the sisters, along with the helpful and kind man working at the front desk. Their friendly and warm nature was much appreciated and added to my experience in a positive way. The accomodation was close to everything which was wonderful! As a female travelling alone, I felt very safe staying there. I'd definitely recommend this place. It is simple but clean and comfortable.
Jane - Queensland, Australia (April 2016)
Perfect spot to see Venice!
Nora - WA, United States (April 2016)
The sisters are really friendly. The place is also very nice, near to San Marco, many restaurants and shops and the supermarket.
Tan - , Singapore (March 2016)
Place is clean and neat. A nice lovely room that is well-kept and clean. Location is wonderful. 5 mins away to the Rialto bridge and plenty of shops and restaurants in the vicinity. The sisters are nice and friendly.
Zhi Ler - , Singapore (March 2016)
We would absolutely stay there again. The room itself was predictably austere, but clean and comfortable. It had a larger bathroom than the previous venues on our travel plan. There was no noise intrusion from outside or the hallway. There is no breakfast offered here, although there is a refrigerator and microwave in a common area for guest use. We simply ate out during our stay, though there is a supermarket only 1 block from the convent, making it very convenient to buy, store and heat food from elsewhere. The receptionist provided a great restaurant recommendation for dinner. We liked it so much we dined there both nights during our stay. The room had an air conditioner that I assume is fully controllable from the keypad on the wall below it. However, heat is provided via hot water radiators. But the convent controls the hours when the radiators run and they are off during sleeping hours. This made the room a little chilly for us as overnight temperatures were in the mid 30's F during our stay. We used the additional blankets and they were adequate, but we would have preferred a warmer temperature.
Jeffrey - TX, United States (December 2015)
Fabulous location and facility. The sisters were very helpful. We were happy to support them as they operate a school for children. We would definitely come back again!
Christina - CA, United States (October 2015)
The sisters and other personnel were friendly and helpful. The lovely room where wifi was available was a nice quiet place to relax, and the vending machines were inexpensive and handy.
Julie - WY, United States (October 2015)
This is the third time we have stayed at this venue. The location and price made up for the small room.
Monica - KZN, South Africa (October 2015)
Very friendly and helpful staff.
Ian - New South Wales, Australia (September 2015)
It was a very convenient pleasant place to stay.I would definitely stay there again if in Venice.
Diane - New South Wales, Australia (August 2015)
We were absolutely delighted with our Monastery Stay at Istituto San Giuseppe! The location is excellent - just a couple of minutes walk from San Marco's square and right in the hub of Venice's shopping and dining area.
The reception staff were exceptional - they have a very efficient system for looking after their visitors and were very helpful during our stay.
Karen - Queensland, Australia (August 2015)
The best night of sleep ever on vacation! The location is ideal. The facility is beautiful. The room was just what was needed. Bathroom and shower were wonderful. Air conditioning worked. We were greeted by a nun who spoke to me in fluent Italian, but I got the gist because of my limited Spanish. Wifi could only be used downstairs and was intermittent. I would definitely stay there again and recommend it to friends. Thank you.
Veronica - CO, United States (August 2015)
This was my second time to stay in this convent as a guest. I will stay there any time I am in Venice, and have recommended it to others. The staff are extremely accommodating to requests, knowledgeable about the area. The sisters are gracious.
Jennifer - MO, United States (July 2015)
What a glorious stay in a quiet and extremely peaceful place amongst the Spiritual nuns...loved hearing the kids and the gorgeous historical front door. The AC mid day was especially refreshing on our very long trip through Europe camping and hostelling with no relief from a hot summer! Thank you for this treasured stay in the center of Venice!!!!
Susan - NC, United States (July 2015)
It was great staying at this Monastery. The nuns were lovely and always willing to help us. They were very welcoming and the ambience is lovely. Thank you so much for a wonderful stay!
Mrs - VIC, Australia (July 2015)
The Instituto staff is invariably friendly and very helpful. They made me feel most welcome. I would definitely stay there again.
Susan - Ontario, Canada (June 2015)
Amazing location! As Venice is mostly tourists it is wonderful early in the morning and late at night to walk around a quieter city from this monastery. The supermarket a stone's throw away was a bonus as there are good facilities to make breakfast at the monastery.
Nicola - Victoria, Australia (June 2015)
One of the most pleasant surprises of a two week trip. This might be one of the best geographical locations in all of Venice. Extremely clean. Great service from the staff. Air conditioning was good during 90 degree days.
Gary - OH, United States (June 2015)
Great stay. The Nuns where very helpful in getting me settled in.
Great location close to the ferries, restaurants and supermarket. I've already recommended!

Great location. The nuns only spoke Italian.

Very warm welcome. The location was absolutely the best!
James - Ontario, Canada (April 2015)
They made us feel very welcome.
John - South Australia, Australia (April 2015)
The community area provides a microwave and refrigerator. A number of guests made use of them. The convent is located near St. Mark's Square, and within a short walk to the Rialto Bridge. The rooms are very clean, the facility is very safe, and the residency building is quiet. I stayed for four nights, and would use Instituto San Giuseppe again if I were to travel to Venice.
James - IN, United States (April 2015)
Fantastic location, very kind and welcoming people, great price. The rooms are very plain, but comfortable bed and perfectly adequate en suite bathroom.
Elizabeth - London, United Kingdom (April 2015)
Everyone at the Convent was kind and helpful. Everything was clean and comfortable. Hot shower a delight. We are already planning another stay there later this year and would highly recommend as a great value for the price. We were very pleased.
Leslie - TX, United States (March 2015)
My stay at Instituto San Giuseppe was beyond satisfactory. The location was fantastic being only a five minute walk from the San Marco Piazza and the Rialto Bridge. The sisters are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are both clean and comfortable.
Bridget - KY, United States (December 2014)
The room was a bit small but comfortable; beds were also comfortable; the in room bathroom was a plus, the shower was small but reasonable; the nuns staff were very helpful. The facility security was very comforting which provide a solid level of trust. The location was in the center of all sites we wanted to see, making for easy access. Staying in the monastery provided another faith filled warmth and comfort that my wife and I enjoyed and had only experienced at the three previous monasteries. It was also a very busy monastery relative to its religious and educational activities for kids and adults. My wife and I have already recommended the monastery to others. Our 3 week tour of Italy (Rome, Amalfi Sorrento/Amalfi Coast, Florence and Venice) wouldn't have been possible and/or as enjoyable if we hadn't involved the monasteries!!!
John - NY, United States (November 2014)
On arrival we were given a warm welcome and a tour of the facilities. Staff were friendly and helpful. The location is fantastic, midway between Rialto and Piazza San Marco. Lots of restaurants nearby, even a gondola service right outside the front door. We would highly recommend this accommodation.
Clare - Western Australia, Australia (October 2014)
This was perfect - everything I want: quiet, clean, safe, comfortable bed and excellent location.
Margaret - , Austria (October 2014)
Lovely helpful staff, good facilities- use of small kitchen and prime location although difficult to find. So nice to have a quiet place to retreat to from the bustle of Venice.
Andrea - NSW, Australia (October 2014)
The monastery was close to St. Mark's Square and public transportation. The sisters and staff were very gracious and the convent courtyard was a welcome spot to relax. In the morning, the little children in the school were darling as they played in their prim aprons - a sample of the real Italy.
Richard T - MN, United States (October 2014)
Everything about this place is excellent. I've put a 7 for sleep quality because on the first two nights, they were out of the mosquito repellent vapor pellets. Once we got them, we were able to sleep just fine.
Marie - Ontario, Canada (October 2014)
I anjoyed staying at the Istituo San giuseppe. Very clean, and helpful. We had a wonderful time..
Mary - Alberta, Canada (October 2014)
The location is fantastic a short walk to San Marco Square and Rialto Bridge. Martina in the office very efficient and helpful. A very memorable stay in Venice.
Nigel - Western Australia, Australia (October 2014)
The staff and the nuns were very gracious and helpful. About 10 minutes between Rialto bridge and St. Marks. Loved being on a canal and also loved the little children in smocks at the school.
Julie - MN, United States (September 2014)
A very sweet place in Venice; very clean & a great night's sleep.
Michael - CA, United States (September 2014)
We loved the experience of staying here. The curfew was no issue for us and the staff were friendly. As other people have reviewed the walls are 'paper thin' - you really do hear everything! It is a different experience do not expect the facilities of a hotel and you will enjoy it. We met some lovely people in the shared kitchen area and made use of the kettle and fridge in here. We loved being so central to San Marco as well.
Jennifer - Victoria, Australia (September 2014)
Everything was perfect, staff and nuns were lovely, very helpful, WIFI only worked in kitchen but that wasn't a big deal
Perfect location for tourists, Iloved the location during the evening after tourists had gone, but too many tourists during the day for me
Robyn - Victoria, Australia (September 2014)
Very Clean & comfortable. The porter & Nuns were very welcoming. The voices of happy children at play in the morning was nice to wake up to.
Lee - British Columbia, Canada (September 2014)
It was wonderful! We enjoyed seeing in passing the school children's activities. The staff was very helpful and kind. The location was perfect. If we ever visit Venice again, we will stay at Instituto San Guiseppe.
Mary - MI, United States (September 2014)
The location was excellent. The place is located within walking distance of everything you'd want to see. We took the water boat there and while it was intially hard to find. Once we found our bearing- we discovered the boat let us off about 10 or 15 minutes away from the location. Wifi was practically nonexistent.
Marian - IL, United States (September 2014)
Great place and amazing value - location perfect in Venice and very peaceful at night,
John - , United Kingdom (September 2014)
We both enjoyed our stay very much indeed. The staff was friendly and helpful and the location was excellent.
Maria-Elena - Kent, United Kingdom (September 2014)
I had a wonderful three days staying at San Giuseppe. The location is great, the rooms are super clean and there are people to help you if you are lost. The only problem for me was that wifi was not working so I had to use the roaming service a lot.
Joon Yeon - , Germany (September 2014)
Very friendly and very knowlegable people.Location was central and all facilities were very near. We will definitely recommend.Other than the fact that the wifi signal did not reach the rooms, it was an excellent facility.
Jayant - SC, United States (September 2014)
Terrific accommodation for anyone but especially for female travellers, families, those on a limited budget or those travelling solo. Very comfortable rooms, great little eating area (with fridge and microwave) and comfortable lounge area. Staff were helpful and kind.Very centrally located to the major sites, transportation and a co-op grocery store. Would definitely recommend to others and stay again in this accommodation.
Ingrid - Saskatchewan, Canada (August 2014)
This was a brilliant place to stay in Venice. The location was unbeatable, halfway between St Mark's Square and the Rialto bridge. My room was very clean (except for the tops of tall things like the bathroom mirror - the cleaner is short!) and had effective air conditioning. Having access to a very reasonably priced vending machine, as well as a kitchen with tables, microwave, fridge and condiments, made this place even more convenient.
Abbi - Herts, United Kingdom (August 2014)
Everything was very good except that there were several mosquitos in our room every night, buzzing and biting, making it hard to sleep. Otherwise, the place was perfect.
Cecilia - NY, United States (August 2014)
Perfect location, very central however peaceful and quiet once inside the Monastery. The nuns are friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed our stay thank you.
Michelle - New South Wales, Australia (August 2014)
A fabulous location! and a wonderful place for families to stay. Safe environment with plenty of room for children. It was very nice to meet the nuns and staff were very helpful. Thank you.
Michael - New South Wales, Australia (August 2014)
The staff were helpful, I thought the venue was expensive - no breakfast included, the sisters were friendly, security high- had to buzz to go out andd to come in
Celina - Victoria, Australia (August 2014)
Try to arrive in the morning - - it gets super crowded in the afternoon during the summer which is kind of a drag. Venetians say the best time to visit their city is November.
Also: you don't have to pay or wait in line to go to the Basilica of San Marco -- you can enter on the side door to go to Holy Mass and/or pray. Masses are held, I believe, at 7 am, 8 am, 9 am, 10 am and perhaps even 11 am.
Bottom line: travel light!
Mary - Kuwait, Kuwait (August 2014)
It was a lovely place, everyone we met there was very friendly
Felicia - , United Kingdom (August 2014)
The Sisters were very kind. I was pulling a VERY heavy suitcase and lost and asked them how to get to the monastery. It turned out they were from there and helped me carry my case and then, when I was leaving, one of them took me to where I needed to go. Truly amazing!
Place very clean, well run. Would stay again, but make sure you know where to get off the valporetto ( Rialto ) or will carry your case very far as I did.
Marguerite - Ontario, Canada (June 2014)
Clean, friendly, quiet and all you could hope for. My room was on the top floor with a pleasant view over the roof tops. Cool air worked well and I was provided with a mosquito control device upon checking in so no worries there. Very nice people and a nice stay. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.
M - WA, United States (June 2014)
The staff were very helpful and extremely nice. It is a great location on the San Marco side of the island. Breakfast is not served but there is a grocery store steps away. The room was clean and had a nice view outside. The seating area is open and airy making it lovely to sit and visit with others on holiday. Overall, a nice stay.
Andrea L - MO, United States (May 2014)
The sisters were warm and welcoming. The location was perfect - a very easy walk to St. Mark's Square and to the Rialto Bridge. The room with its private bathroom was very comfortable. The sisters run a school and it was lovely to hear the laughter of little children each morning when walking out of the building.
Diane - NY, United States (May 2014)
We had a lovely stay. Everyone was very friendly and keen to be of assistance. One small issue was the lack of crockery and cutlery in the kitchen which was a little uncomfortable. Also some information on mosquito management would be of assistance as we did get pretty badly bitten.
Anne - Dublin, Ireland (May 2014)
We enjoyed our stay at this monastary. The staff was helpful and as well as the sisters who were also very nice.
Suzanne - Quebec, Canada (May 2014)
The convent was perfect in almost all respects. However the air conditions wasn't working in our room and we really needed proper mosquito guards at the windows as we were bitten relentlessly. The staff in the convent were super lovely but the nuns were offhand especially one Chinese nun who we felt was most inhospitable considering they are Christians and we were guests under their roof. It seemed we were very inconvenient for her. Poor show!
Edward - Shropshire, United Kingdom (May 2014)
My cousin and I loved our stay. The communal kitchen/dining room was so handy for breakfast preparation. The close proximity of the Coop supermarket was very handy. The security staff were very friendly and we always felt very safe. The convent is quiet and since the rooms do not have television sets, there was no annoying electronic noise.
Yvonne - Ontario, Canada (May 2014)
I have 2 comments
1 the use of wifi is not easy
2 The fact that we need somebody each time that we go out or come in
is a little bit a kind of problem
Yves - , France (May 2014)
The staff were excellent, provided helpful information and were very friendly and accommodating. The Sisters were happy to welcome guests. The combination with the school is an interesting and charming feature, well worth working around. Gondolas outside the front door and the location near San Marco are amazing advantages.
Sr. - MI, United States (May 2014)
Very clean, very friendly staff and residents, great location.
Scarlett - NY, United States (May 2014)
keep up the great work!!
Scott - WA, United States (May 2014)
Enjoyed it very much - great location, friendly, helpful staff, comfortable environment
Ronald - Nova Scotia, Canada (May 2014)
Wonderful location and friendly staff.
Lucy - Victoria, Australia (April 2014)
The monastery was lovely. It operates as a school most days, so there was some confusion as to how to get to our rooms without interrupting the children on their lunch break; however, the sisters and the staff were very helpful and accommodating. The communal tea room was also a nice area to relax. The rooms themselves were comfortable and clean. I would definitely stay here again.
Lucia - Queensland, Australia (March 2014)
Ideal location and easy to find. Had an excellent stay here. Perfectly clean. Everyone friendly and helpful. Good wifi reception. Thoroughly recommend it.
Sarah - Devon, United Kingdom (March 2014)
We stayed in January. The city and the convent were both very quiet and welcoming. It felt like we had the place to ourselves. The rooms were very clean, warm and comfortable.
Jean - Aberdeen City, United Kingdom (January 2014)
Very nice overall. Convenient location and good room.
Andrew - OR, United States (October 2013)
Such a great location, the sisters were wonderful, really great value.
Timothy - Australian Capital Territory, Australia (October 2013)
Like everywhere in Venice it was a little hard to locate. More our fault than the directions. The staff were very helpful. This is a working junior school and I liked the facts that there were happy children around. The building was peaceful and calming. The beds were as I expected in a convent. Only complaint was the pillows a little flat and hard.
Angela - Victoria, Australia (October 2013)
Centrally located to all that Venice has to offer. 5 minute walk to St. Mark's Square. The rooms are clean with comfortable beds. They do not offer meals but encourage use of their fully equipped kitchen or will suggest a cafe or restaurant within walking distance. Should you decide to prepare your own meals a market is just around the corner. The nuns were very friendly, helpful, and accommodating.
Anita - CA, United States (October 2013)
A very central location half way between San Marco and the Rialto that was easy to reach using their clear directions - we had about 10 minute walk from the San Marco vaporetto/Alilaguna stop with only one small set of steps. People at the office were extremely helpful and friendly, kitchen available with microwave, kettle etc. We booked a twin room that had three single beds, bedside tables, wardrobe and desk, and plenty of power points, extra blankets. A supermarket just around the corner. A wonderfully cheap stay in Venice, especially when you compare the prices with surrounding hotels. Highly recommended.
Jill - Queensland, Australia (October 2013)
Our stay here more than met our expectations. Such a peaceful and calm oasis In the heart of Venice was a rare find indeed. Thoroughly recommended.
Janette - Victoria, Australia (September 2013)
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and Loris was a wonderful help with what and how to do everything in Venice.
Brigitte - Queensland, Australia (September 2013)
The Monastery was fantastic! The position was wonderful and the Nuns were very helpful.
Frances - New South Wales, Australia (September 2013)
The staff was very helpful and friendly.
Vanessa - NH, United States (September 2013)
I had a very pleasant 2-night stay. The room was small, but clean and comfortable. The sisters and other employees were very helpful.
Christine - NY, United States (September 2013)
Convent is in a superb place to explore Venice. Directly between the Rialto Bridge and St Marco sq it really doesn't get any better for location and value for money. The convent is simply presented, there is really only one room up stairs where it looks like they do schooling that is beautifully decked out with paintings, fittings and furniture. The rest of the convent is slightly clinical. The room had everything we needed and perfectly clean.
Michelle - New Zealand, New Zealand (August 2013)
We enjoyed our stay. It's a very nice facility. The only drawback was that we had to turn in our key every time we left the facility. It is a beautiful location in Venice. Once inside, it feels like an oasis from the hustle and bustle of Venice streets. Very clean and quiet, nice ensuite facilities.
Lisa - CO, United States (August 2013)
Very lovely reception. Great location. I would go back any time.
Marek - NSW, Australia (August 2013)
It was lovely! 10 minute walk to San Marco.
April - RI, United States (August 2013)
It was a bit tricky to find the first time but once we got used to navigating in Venice it wasn't bad at all. There were plenty of restaurants and shops nearby and it was very close to St. Mark's Square. The air conditioning worked well and there was plenty of hot water in the bathroom. It was very quiet so we slept well. One warning though. The twin beds are quite narrow so if you are used to sleeping in a larger bed you might fall out of bed like I did the first night.
Janenne - IA, United States (July 2013)
Wonderful accommodation and location, friendly and helpful nuns and staff.
Brett - Manitoba, Canada (June 2013)
My teenage daughter and I stayed for six days in late June. Ideal location, very close to the Piazza San Marco (three-four minute walk)and the Rialto Bridge (less than ten min); immaculately clean. The nuns and lay staff offer hospitality and a quiet, peaceful place to stay. They were helpful in explaining how to use the coffee machine, how to find a shortcut to the grocery store, and how to change a train ticket, although they certainly do not operate like a hotel with concierge services. Internet connection on the desktop is dicey but wi-fi always worked. Ask for a separate password for each individual in your party. If you are low maintenance, don't plan to be out late (11:00 pm curfew) and want to stay in a beautiful, centrally located setting, I highly recommend San Guiseppe. We will return.
Nancy - NC, United States (June 2013)
I look forward to returning. I found everyone to be very helpful and accommodating.
Francine - British Columbia, Canada (June 2013)
It was a really lovely stay.
Suzanne - New South Wales, Australia (June 2013)
We enjoyed our stay. The accommodation was located in an excellent position and it was clean and quiet. The Istituto was very peaceful and we would definitely stay again and recommend it to friends.
Luciano - Victoria, Australia (May 2013)
Wonderful, the sisters could not have been kinder!
Madeleine - HI, United States (May 2013)
Best location for tourists - right between St. Mark's Square and the Rialto Bridge. And very quiet, in spite of this.
Nancy - NM, United States (May 2013)
Excellent location. Would recommend it to friends.
Aldred - Ontario, Canada (May 2013)
The place was clean and beautiful. It was in a great location and the nuns were kind and helpful.
Susan - MA, United States (May 2013)
A great quiet place in the perfect location. Very friendly and helpful.
Michael - Victoria, Australia (May 2013)
We had a wonderful time. It was our first time in Venice. We were delighted to find that the convent was in a perfect location close to St Mark's Square. The nuns were very friendly despite our limited Italian.
Robert - MA, United States (April 2013)
This is an unbeatable location in the heart of Venice. My only disappointment was that there was not really working wifi in the building for most of my stay - and there was none in the wing of the house where I stayed. It was secure, quiet, private. It had the limitation of buzzing in every time and leaving the key at the door, which is common for most convents/monasteries. All the sisters and the staff were extremely cordial and helpful.
Patricia - MD, United States (April 2013)
The accommodation was very simple, but clean. The sisters were very nice, and although there was a school nearby it was quiet.
Sara - British Columbia, Canada (April 2013)
What a lovely place to stay, the welcome was warm. I slept very soundly and wasn't bothered by the curfew.
Susan - London, United Kingdom (January 2013)
This guest house is attached to an elementary school. It also has strict security - requiring being "buzzed" in and out at all times - for some, that may be a disappointment. It did not bother my family, however. The guest house is very conveniently located near St. Marks, and the sisters and staff were very helpful. We would absolutely stay here again!
John - NH, United States (January 2013)
The Istituto San Giuseppe was in the perfect location. The sisters were ever so helpful.
Adam - IL, United States (December 2012)
This convent had an excellent location for walking to all the areas of interest. The staff we did meet were friendly and helpful. The rooms very a little small, but sufficient to our needs.
Andrea - Ontario, Canada (October 2012)
Great place in the heart of Venice. Easy to walk to and we felt very safe and comfortable there. So affordable we got our own rooms.
Diane - AZ, United States (October 2012)
Staff and the nuns were very helpful. It is brilliantly situated about five minutes walk from Piazza San Marco in one direction and the Rialto bridge in the other direction. Plenty of restaurants nearby.
Wayne - Co Galway, Ireland (September 2012)
Fantastic stay in a fantastic venue. Atmosphere of an ex-palace added so much to our experience of Venice. Rooms are basic but very clean and serviced daily. Wifi only available downstairs, not in rooms. Nuns are very polite and helpful, but do not have very much english. Location is very close to San Marco but can be tricky to find initially, especially if you arrive at night as we did.
DENISE - Tasmania, Australia (September 2012)
It was excellent indeed. As two years ago in another monastery in Venice, I was expecting monks and found nuns! Anyway, it was peaceful and I was looked after ie left alone. One aspect which is irksome, is that in a city one wishes to come and go but there is an insistance on ringing the bell rather than retaining a key during one's stay...not a big deal but would be nice.
Howard - Hertfordshire, United Kingdom (August 2012)
The staff and sisters were lovely and helpful. The actual building was a highlight of our stay. We would have preferred a booking that included breakfast, but none were available. We very much enjoyed the stay and would recommend it and other monestary bookings to friends.
Cindy - British Columbia, Canada (August 2012)
While we thought this monastery was satisfactory, we found we couldn't even boil water. The monastery had a 'kitchen' which did not have running water or a sink. There was no cutlery, plates or any eating utensil whatsover provided. However, the monastery was quiet and we felt very secure. Excellent location; only a few minutes from Rialto vaporetto stop and also, St. Marks's vaporetto stop (forget the name). The room was small, but adequate, very clean and quiet. So clean in fact that after I rinsed out a shirt in the hand-basin, I discovered that the bleach used to clean the basin successfully killed the germs and also took out the colour in my shirt... There was no outside garden to sit-in.
Lynne - Victoria, Australia (August 2012)
Amazing people and place! THANK YOU.
Jenn - Alberta, Canada (July 2012)
The sisters at San Giuseppe were friendly and welcoming. When I felt too unwell to travel they assisted in making our room available for an extra night and sorting out amendments to my train ticket. In fact they went beyond my expections in terms of customer service. The monastery is in a fantastic location. It is peaceful and well kept.
Genevieve - Wiltshire, United Kingdom (July 2012)
Met all our expectations ecxcept that the kitchen area which had a fridge. microwave, kettle, and seating was not of much use as there were no cups, plates, cutlery etc available.
Peter - , New Zealand (July 2012)
The staff was friendly and helpful. The location is excellent! Very central to all sights. The curfew of 11pm was a bit of a problem and might not be good for those who want to stay out late.
Robert - CA, United States (June 2012)
Great location! Quiet, clean, safe, helpful staff.
James - OH, United States (June 2012)
It was very nice to meet the nuns, who were very helpful. We didn't know it was also a school during day but it was nice too.
Felipe - Amazonas, Brazil (May 2012)
The nuns were very friendly and helpful. We would have found it more convenient if we had been allowed a key to let ourselves in and out, but accept there may be a security issue. As well as the drinks dispenser we would have used a coffee machine, had there been one. We much enjoyed our stay.
Susan - North Yorkshire, United Kingdom (May 2012)
Thank you, very nice of you.
Maria - Luxembourg, Luxembourg (May 2012)
Superb location.
Gerard - Victoria, Australia (May 2012)
Incredible location and only a few minutes walk from St. Marks Square, but in a quiet area. The room was small, but very comfortable and clean. Everyone was most helpful and the common area with wifi and tables was a nice touch.
Norma - TX, United States (May 2012)
Lovely convent, but took a little finding in Venice's confusing streets
Ann-Louise - South Australia, Australia (April 2012)
The nuns here were the epitome of grace. It was a true honour to share their beautiful monastery/school/former palace. Nun yolanda really made our stay memorable - she took us on a lovely tour and always greeted us with a smile. Fortunate to have met a person like this. Security is good, the monastery is very clean, modern facilities, internet, computer available, beautiful guilded ceilings (once a palazzo) and the best hospitality in this world.
Wayne - Canterbury, New Zealand (April 2012)
Wonderful property. I would recommend it to anyone.
Carolyn - WI, United States (April 2012)
It was a beautiful building, and the nuns were charming and very helpful. I enjoyed my stay and would certainly go back.
Patricia - New South Wales, Australia (March 2012)
Staff were lovely but inconvient location as it is located above a school.
Keiralee - New South Wales, Australia (October 2011)
Great location, good quality modern, modest size, rooms - excellent advice and hospitality.
David - SA, Australia (October 2011)
A delightful place to stay, minutes from San Marco. Surrounded by places to eat, minutes from transport.
Robert - Queensland, Australia (October 2011)
My room was lovely, very clean, and the people in the convent very welcoming and friendly. La Madre Superior e fantastica. I would definitely stay here again. Only one thing. Constantly got lost and the directions were not very good. But it didn't matter!
Julie - , New Zealand (October 2011)
Mosquitoes were a problem, so fly screens on the windows would really be great. The same goes for the computer to access the Internet which we only became aware of when we found the tea room.
Terri - Tasmania, Australia (October 2011)
We had some difficulty initially finding this facility. Venice, being such an easy place to get confused in, we could have used even more explicit walking instructions.
Melody - WA, United States (October 2011)
The location was excellent, just a few minutes walk from San Marco's and the Doges Palace. The sisters and staff were friendly and helpful. There was a supermarket and plenty of eatieries close by.
Patricia - Queensland, Australia (September 2011)
It was a delight to stay here and it was amongst our most memorable stays. Insects screens would have made it perfect.
Andrew - Victoria, Australia (September 2011)
Great location.
M. Joyce - British Columbia, Canada (September 2011)
I felt very welcome in this comfortable monastery. Plus, as a bonus, I was given this room with the incredible view over the tiled-roofed houses in the neighbourhood. I was delighted with this stay at this monastery.
aline - qc, canada (July 2011)
We enjoyed our stay mainly because it is a quiet little haven in a bustling city. The rooms were light and airy and the staff/nuns were friendly, helpful and professional. We would definately stay again.
Jan - New South Wales, Australia (July 2011)
Excellent location. Spacious rooms. Great value for money. Big disadvantage is not having wi-fi in the rooms and for those of you who want to party, the curfew (for us, it didn't matter).
Chavvi - , Germany (July 2011)
Sister Mary-Clare was most helpful with local information and history of the Istituto. The young man at reception was also most helpful when asked best way to visit Murano Island. Our room was very quiet but it was pleasant to hear the clock chime and hear the seagulls in the mornings. It was a great experience to stay at and would definitely recommend the stay to others
Margaret and Tom - South Australia, Australia (July 2011)
This was my favourite stay as it was such an amazing location in the heart of Venice,I felt like I was in a hotel rather than a convent stay.
Michelle - South Australia, Australia (July 2011)
Fantastic accomodation in the heart of Venice. Very clean, the sisters are all very friendly and happy to help.
Chloe - Queensland, Australia (July 2011)
The Istituto provided an outstanding accommodation for our family of four. The room was very clean, stark, and very quiet. The nuns were very friendly and helpful. Location was ideal, although a bit hard to find the first time. We highly recommend this convent as a place to stay while in Venice!!
Alison - CO, United States (July 2011)
Will definately return. Thank you very much.
roleen - South Africa, South Africa (June 2011)
Aircondition did not work when we came, but was fixed as soon as possible!
Vigdis - , Norway (June 2011)
Thank you very much to the lovely nuns who looked after us so well. The Institute is perfectly located and right on a small canal, quintessentially Venice.
Christine - Victoria, Australia (June 2011)
The room I received was the smallest of all twins at the monasterary. I am a previous customer and would have enjoyed a larger twin room. The floor was not clean. Also, check in ws at 11am and I did not get in the room until 12 30 pm.
Joann - PA, United States (June 2011)
Excellent central location, clean rooms, warm welcome and helpful nuns but it would have been nice to have fresh towels at least onece in a four night stay
Declan - Northants, United Kingdom (June 2011)
The room lacked character and a view. It was just a box. Moreover, the curfew was too early. For a lot of people this may be the only visit of their lives to one of the most beautiful, intriguing, possibility-laden, cities of the world and to cut it all cruelly short at 11pm is a crying shame.
Christopher - , Singapore (June 2011)
the convent is in a great location which is less than 10 mins walk from St Marco square, the price is very reasonable and the staff are friendly, but for those who are into night life this is not a place for you as it has a 10:30pm curfew
Wen-Hui - , Taiwan (June 2011)
We highly rcommend.
Laura - FL, United States (May 2011)
Mother Superior and her Assistants were wonderful & I look forward to returning. I really enjoyed my stay with the Monastery.
Lucille - Alberta, Canada (May 2011)
We enjoyed our Monastery stays in Venice very much. In Venice, there was a microwave but nothing to put the water in to heat it up. Eventually we were given a round bowl with no handle, a bit awkward but better than nothing! They had a fridge but it would be great if they could purchase a kettle!!
Amanda - , South Africa (May 2011)
Although no breakfast is provided there are plenty of places around to get some.
Moira - Northants, United Kingdom (May 2011)
CENTRALLY LOCATED, QUITE AND COMFORTABLE STAFF FRIENDLY.
Barbara - Tasmania, Australia (April 2011)
Fantastic location, lovely rooms and building.
Jeffrey - Western Australia, Australia (December 2010)
Easy to find, safe, clean, central. No internet or television access
Christine - New South Wales, Australia (October 2010)
It was very clean, quiet, safe. The water pressure in the shower was very good. The location was convenient. It would have been nice to have two keys available so that two people staying together could come and go separately.
Anna - WI, United States (October 2010)
Cleanliness & location 10:30 curfew though we understood
diane - ME, United States (October 2010)
I expected the rooms to be basic, clean and quiet which they were. It would be nice to have a kettle to boil water for a cup of tea (perhaps not standard in the rooms but on loan with a holding deposit).
Janis - New South Wales, Australia (September 2010)
The monastery was clean, comfortable, and very sufficient for travelling.
Dawne - British Columbia, Canada (September 2010)
I had not expected hotel-like facilities to be provided at a monastery, but I was pleasantly surprised by my experience here. Quaint rooms, central location.
Jainishta - London, United Kingdom (August 2010)
Propery was in a great location. The staff that greeted you on arrival were very friendly, helpful, and could communicate in English. The room, although small, was clean and tidy. The location was excellent. The fact that someone within the building had to give you access, meant my property was a lot more secure within the building. Staff were friendly. English was spoken and understood. Noise of the people walking around in the room above travelled down through the floor and into my room, which woke me at 5.30am each morning.
The curfew was a little bit limiting, as I needed to start coming home early in case I got lost and didn't make it before curfew.
Frances - Victoria, Australia (August 2010)
Easy access to the sites of Venice. Very friendly people. There were many mosquitoes and I was covered in bites. I would recommend it but also tell them about the mosquitoes.
Jennifer - Western Australia, Australia (July 2010)
Was very private, and very close and central to all facilities eg. restaurants, shops and transport. Had to leave room key at office each time i left the monastery and had to wait to be let in each time.
Maria - South Australia, Australia (June 2010)
The room was very pleasant and nice, but there was no fan or AC and there were mosquitos.
Location and cleanliness of the room was great.
Vamsee - CA, United States (June 2010)
It was very clean and so close to everything. Would have liked a coffee maker in the room seeing as there was not a breakfast. The coffee machine downstairs was fine, but you had to make it there.
Chantal - British Columbia, Canada (May 2010)
The Sisters were great. They were very easy going and really made our time there pleasureable. Location was fantastic, just off St. marks square.
Jenifer - CO, United States (May 2010)
Great location. A convenient & comfortable place to stay. The staff were helpful & friendly. The rooms were comfortable & clean. As there are no meals provided tea & coffee making facilities would be welcome.
Waldtraut - Gloucestershire, United Kingdom (May 2010)
I would have liked more friendly interaction and an opportunity to have bed and breakfast. The location was central, the room clean and bed comfortable. Would loved to be able to make a cup of tea or coffee in our room. We only discovered the tea/coffee machine after we had been there a couple of days.
Rita - New South Wales, Australia (April 2010)
Very clean and quiet. Well taken care of. The 10:30 pm curfew. I had to leave concerts early to get back in time.
laurie - NJ, United States (April 2010)
The hospitality was wonderful - the people who greeted me were lovely. The room was spotless and nicely laid out. It was a great stay.
Heather - WA, United States (April 2010)
Absolutely great central spot in Venice. Bathroom was decent size. Price was good. The nuns were not interested at all in interaction with paying guests, their vocation is the school and the children.
Sioux - New South Wales, Australia (October 2009)
The site was very well located - close to everything but very quiet, peaceful surroundings. The room was large, comfortable and clean. It was really terrific. There was a curfew which caused us to not venture very far for dinner. As it is so easy to get lost in Venice we chose to eat close by all the time for fear of not getting back in time.
Also, the nun receptionist was quite cranky. Definitely was a great deal.
Catherine - RI, United States (October 2009)
We were hoping that our spot would be clean, quiet and adequate. We knew it was close to the central activities, and all was as we expected.
We would like to have had breakfast. Excellent value, and loved the quaintness.
Norah - Alberta, Canada (October 2009)
Great location. Beautiful building. Modern facilities. Friendly staff. Great Value for money. Bed too narrow and unconfortable.
Hilary - New South Wales, Australia (October 2009)
Located in a good central part of Venice, only about 4 short blocks from Piazza San Marco. They were not very well equipped to provide any helpful information about Venice (best way to get to places, restaurant recommendations, etc.).
Charles - TX, United States (September 2009)
For accomodation in Venice, this was really affordable and a great location. Only a 5 minute walk from San Marco piazza.
Susanne - South Australia, Australia (September 2009)
The hospitality and friendliness of the sisters.
An elevator to get your luggage up the stairs.
If breakfast were served as part of the package it would have been good.
Catherine - MA, United States (August 2009)
Quiet, comfortable rooms. Excellent location.
Darrel - CA, United States (July 2009)
The location, being only a 10-minute walk from San Marco in Venice; sense of safety and security. Having a curfew in Venice is difficult; the fan in the room felt inadequate; no breakfast added a complication at the beginning of every day.
William - CA, United States (June 2009)
It was exactly what i was looking for, simple clean and well priced. The room was simple but very nice. It was in a great loaction and the people were very friendly.
Antonino - Western Australia, Australia (June 2009)
Location, nice nuns. Because of a strike in Italy our flight was cancelled which put us in Venice @1a.m. Nobody came to the door, and was considering sleeping in the doorway to save the 300 dollars the nearest hotel would have charged us! They did let us in, reminded us of our curfew and we got to bed.
sacy - GA, United States (May 2009)
The monastery was clean, spacious and the bathroom was bigger than some of the hotel rooms we stayed in Italy. It was centrally located and convenient to all sights.
John - Ontario, Canada (May 2009)
Very clean. There is a school at the monestary and it was enjoyable to see the children. Great location. There is no breakfast but that appears to be common.
Linda - FL, United States (April 2009)
Having stayed in convents previously I was quite aware of what to expect and pleased to have private bath facilities. The room was very clean, quiet and more than adequate to my needs. Those individuals at the front desk (I use this phases loosely) were extremely pleasant and helpful. Both of the individuals, in my opinion, went beyond what was expected to help me with directions, provide necessities and make me feel comfortable. There was absolutely nothing that was not so good about the monastery itself. It is NOT a 4 star facility nor meant to be. It is the home of a religious community but the hospitality, serenity and charm of the establishment more than make up for any possible inadequacies.
Jean - FL, United States (December 2008)
Fabulous location - close to St Marks Square. The nuns were delightful and the accomodation was as described.
Maureen - Victoria, Australia (November 2008)
Definitely recommend it as long as they weren't 'party animals'.
Anne - Merseyside, United Kingdom (October 2008)
Very comfortable, more than adequate. I did not expect my bed to be made each day. central to all the sights, restaurants etc. good price. very friendly staff and sisters. felt safe at night.
sonja - New South Wales, Australia (October 2008)
The price could not be beat. The rooms were very clean, roomy and comfortable. The location was very convenient.
Cindy - TX, United States (October 2008)
It was all good, especially the excellent location in Venice. Leaving the key each time we left was kind of a pain, but considering the location of the convent and the value, it was well worth it.
Dana - TX, United States (October 2008)
Nothing bad to say. Everything was great. Good location, extremely clean, extremely safe. The rooms were basic but everything you need for a stay. The nuns were wonderful, very friendly and helpful. Definately will recommend to friends No negative comments
Geraldine - Nova Scotia, Canada (September 2008)
Great, wonderful, location. Staff very helpful. ROOM VERY CLEAN & comfortable & quiet...would stay there again
A definite great economical place to stay.... not a 4 star hotel at all...all our needs were satisfied.
Thomas - Ontario, Canada (September 2008)
Location, helpful staff room was like college dorm, but i expected that.
James - MN, United States (September 2008)
The monastery was in a very good location and the room was extremely clean.
Eleanor - , Australia (September 2008)
Quite, good location, nice sisters (even if communitcation was difficult).
John - MN, United States (September 2008)
Entering and leaving building was not a satisfactory system as nuns spoke no English.
Location convenient.
close to supermarket and variety shops. Very clean.
Made coming and going awkward as nuns were constantly being sought for door and key duties which made you feel a nuisance.
Anne - NSW, Australia (September 2008)
Wonderful hostesses, nice room, ideal location.
Michael - MD, United States (July 2008)
It was wonderful! Everyone was very kind, it was clean and comfortable. The locations was perfect. Everyone was helpful, even with some language barrier. It was clean, and I felt secure.
Tara - MA, United States (July 2008)
Nice place but it was very hot, no screens, mosquitos..etc. It was a lovely place. It was in a good location. The people were pleasant, and I appreciated saving money.
Mary Jane - , (July 2008)
Great location front desk not particularly helpful
peter - MN, United States (June 2008)
The location was wonderful and it was pristine clean.
Margel - IN, United States (June 2008)
Had been to istituto san Giuseppe before in Venice location and quiet curfew but with reservations about the curfew.
Steven - WI, United States (June 2008)
Close to the tourist sites and reasonably priced for the simple surroundings. Since there was no breakfast offered at VEV114, we needed to find a morning meal. Perhaps a list and location of local places where breakfast is sold would be helpful.
Jacqueline A - Ontario, Canada (April 2008)
Nice staff, several of whom spoke English. It was also a school, so seeing the children was fun. Safe and quiet place to stay. Great value. A little mold in the shower.
Linda - CO, United States (April 2008)
Clean, quiet, great location, and price was very reasonable for Venice. No breakfast.
Charles - Nova Scotia, Canada (March 2008)
It was centrally located. Very clean. Children from the school were very loud in the mornings. We were not made aware of the school until we got there.
jonathan - AR, United States (March 2008)
Private room and bathroom for the two of us. Wonderful people. Fantastic location that couldn't be better. Difficult to communicate with different languages (but expected).
