Getting Around

Situated just outside of Aquila, this monastery is set on the slopes of Monte D'Ocre, inside the Parco Naturale Regionale del Sirente-Velino (National Park). Being in such a great location, there are fantastic views on offer of the Valley of Aterno. Perched on a crag with a vertical drop down one wall this monastery was built in 1242 as a convent for Benedictine Nuns. It is now run by a group of Franciscan Friars, who have occupied the lodging since 1480.
