Bedding & Rooms Room Rate Who can share rooms? What are multiple rooms? Groups or Families - what rooms? How many people per room?
Bedding & Rooms
The number and type of rooms available at each monastery or convent guest house is shown in the green 'Rooms' table on the right hand side of every lodging's webpage. On each page on the website. Room configurations have the following meaning:
A "single" or "single room" is a bedroom containing one single bed called "una camera singola" in Italian.
A "double" or "double room" or "una camera doppia" in Italian, is a bedroom for two persons most often set up as two single beds together, but able to be separated. If you specifically require one double bed known in Italian as "una camera matrimoniale", then please specify this upon submitting your Travel Plan. It may not always be available, but we can ask if we know it to be your request.
A "triple" or "triple room" is a bedroom containing three single beds.
A "multiple" or "multiple room" is generally 4-5 single beds in one larger room with privacy screening but not separated by walls.
Room Rate
All room rates shown on our website are per room and per night, expressed in euros. Room rates are shown by room type in the green 'Rooms' table on the right hand side of every lodging's webpage.
Rooms are booked with private bathrooms and usually breakfast is included in the rate (see the 'Rooms' table on each venue page for detail).
The room rates shown on our website are per room per night, include the Monastery Room Rate & Monastery Stays Booking Fee - so what you see is the total with no extras to be added.
The room rate shown on the website and the number of nights booked calculates the Total Cost of Accommodation including Monastery Stays Booking Fee. Monastery Stays Travel Plan booking system calculates the amount payable on booking, Pay Now - Monastery Stays Booking Fee & Deposit if required by monastery and the Balance payable at the Accommodation, in Italy (Pay Later). It is a clear process and there are no other amounts required.
The Total Cost of every confirmed booking is made on a simple two part payment.
Total Cost = Pay Now + Pay Later
where:
| Total Cost = | Room Rate shown on the venue page x number of nights booked. |
| Pay Now = | Amount paid upon confirmation of that preference as the confirmed booking. It is Monastery Stays booking fee and any deposit required by the venue. It is all calculated correctly from the venue data held in the comprehensive online booking system. |
| Pay Later = | Balance (Total Cost - Pay Now) due at the monastery or convent guest house in Italy. Payment options for each venue are detailed in the Facilities table on each web page.

Who can share rooms? Back to Top
It is not correct that people of the opposite sex cannot share a double room. It is just they need to fall into a specific category e.g. be married, direct family members eg children, mother/daughter etc.
Monasteries are working religious institutions and as such they have their 'house rules' eg. no unmarried people sharing the same room.
A better plan is to take two single rooms as monasteries have these rare commodities and the price of two singles is not substantially more than a double room. In this way you don't break the rules and can experience the benefit of this unique style of accommodation. If in doubt, ask us with submission of your Travel Plan and we can advise.
What are multiple rooms? Back to Top
Rooms denoted 'multiple' are capable of accommodating 4 or more people in them. They vary from venue to venue and there may be more than one option. These rooms come with separate single beds but with their own private bathroom facilities.
The green 'Rooms' table on the right hand side of every lodging's webpage will denote if we know there to be 'multiple' configuration rooms available and the price will be set to the quadruple (4 person) price. There are not large numbers of such rooms, so they do need to be booked early.
When you submit your Travel Plan, please let us know exactly how many people you require the booking for. We will need to take this information to the monastery with the booking request and ascertain exactly how their rooms are configured. If prices or configuration are different to that displayed on the website then we will contact you with full detail.
Groups or Families - what rooms? Back to Top
Monasteries are very used to accommodating families and groups as Italians use them all the time. But book early as many places are small and fill fast!
Request a combination of rooms in your Travel Plan to suit the number in your groups - multiples, triple, double & single rooms. Do not arrive with more people than the room you booked - it will not be recieved well and you will likely find your booking cancelled.
It might be the younger part of the family can share a 'multiple' room together, with the grand parents in a separate 'double' room. Monastery Stays can book any combination to suit you. Your request is at your discretion and if in doubt email us with your intentions at the time of submitting your Travel Plan.
Also note the Group Booking Policy for groups of ten (10) or more - see the dedicated information and recieve a 10% discount on the Total Cost of Accommodation booked.
How many people per room? Back to Top
Monasteries in Italy, like hotels operate under strict fire and safety regulations. This means they do not book more people into a room than the number it has officially been designated to hold.
Thus 4 people in a double room is not allowed, nor two people in a single room. Exceptions are sometimes made when very young children are involved.
Do not arrive with more people than the room you booked - it will not be recieved well and you will likely find your booking cancelled.
See Bedding & Rooms for further detail.
